Pile In vs Necron Reanimate

Can one use a close combat Pile In to surround remaining Necron models to prevent the ones that were just killed from Reanimating (by not giving them any 1" room to be placed)?

I'm assuming yes because the ones that are killed are actually removed, then Pile In happens, then Reanimate?

Thanks.

End of Combat Pile In, page 53:

- it happens at the end of the combat.

Reanimation protocols happen at the end of a phase.  So the Pile In happens before Reanimation Protocols.

If there is nowhere for a model to be legally placed by the Reanimation Protocols, they are lost.

They must be placed in coherency with a model from their unit (that wasn't brought back that phase by Reanimation Protocols) and more than 1" from an enemy model.  (They then get a Pile In move if their unit is locked in combat.)

So if your Pile In makes that impossible for one or more Necron models (they can't be placed within 2" of a friendly and more than 1" from your models) those models that cannot be placed do not return.

Good to know.

One more question though; If a model is already in base contact, can I still use a Pile In more to shift him around (while still in base contact) to try to encircle my opponent?

I'm thinking RAR doesn't say I can't, but RAI would suggest maybe not in the spirit of Piling In.
