BitsHammer
So once upon a time in 5th edition, back before I became a die-hard Sisters player I'd built an all-foot Space Wolves army on a lark. Now admittidly I'm probably missing some models since I built that in 5th edition (though I still have sprues to work with to make some repairs and dig into for bits), and with me needing a break from Sisters and the new Wolf codex out I decided to dig it back out of the garage where it's sat since a transcontinental move last year.So background aside, here is what I currently have that is assembled, presented as modeled:11x Lascannon Longfangs2x Long Fang Wolf Guard Pack Leader w/ Signum, Bolt Pistol/Chainsword4x Wolf Guard Terminators with Wolf Claws8x Grey Hunter w/ Bolters11x grey Hunters w/ Bolter, Chainsword8x Grey Hunter w/ Plasmagun4x Grey Hunters w/ Plasma Pistol4x Grey Hunters w/ Power Fists, Bolters1x Grey Hunter w/ Bolt Pistol, Chainsword4x Bloodclaws (originally used to represent models w/ Mark of the Wulfen)1x Ulfric the Slayer (metal)1x Converted Ulfric the Slayer (Bolt Pistol, count-as Wolf Priest)1x Rune Priest w/ Bolt Pistol (currently missing Runic Weapon)Any recommendations on how to shape this up to work with the new codex? Also, is Champions of Fenris worth running? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296122-updating-an-old-army-help-needed/ Share on other sites
Squark
Champions of Fenris is mostly for Wolf Guard fans. It does have one formation for those terminators you might find useful; The Wolf Guard Void Claws formation lets a pack of wolf guard terminators with dual wolf claws deep strike turn 1 and re roll their scatter (Plus you reroll reserves as long as at least one model from the formation is alive) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296122-updating-an-old-army-help-needed/#findComment-3796457 Share on other sites

I'm definitely not against Wolf Guard, and some of the models are legal, but I think it'd be better to build those squads from the ground up instead. Shame, because they have some neat stuff in there I like. Guess I'll wait to dive into that for now. Squark
Regarding what you have; -Long Fangs with Lascannons aren't bad (Anymore. I was of the opinion they were overpriced in the 5th edition dex), but I wouldn't run a full squad- Probably mix in a few missile launchers to drop the price a tad. Long Fang Ancients don't use signums, but we do presumably have some auspexes, so your pack leaders will still be fine. -Grey Hunters are reasonable, although you'd probably want more bolters and fewer close combat weapons, and I'd cut the plasma pistols entirely. -Ulrik is now amazing, rune priests are solid (although you want to convert a psychic hood for them), while regular Wolf Priests suffer from not being Ulrik. I rather like the utility of Lascannons and between the new vehicle chart and the points drop I feel they provide a solid means of nuking vehicles, and I can definitely understand where you're coming from on dropping the points by mixxing in something else, I don't think more than 1x a squad would be good thanks to how Split Fire works (limiting you to 1 model in the unit instead of splitting the unit in half). And thanks for the Signum point, that solves what to do with that lone Grey Hunter with the Chainsword/Bolt Pistol I have. As for dropping plasma pistols (which I'm not against since they still cost too much), and adding more none-CCW ones, I get you completely, I just don't have the models for it and these were built with plastic glue nearly 5-6 years ago at this point so they aren't coming apart easy, or cleanly. So I guess I'll be adding a box or two to my shopping list at some point (or a Warriors of the Fang box, assuming I can fit it in my budget next month, otherwise October (yay college). Good to know Ulrik is good (I think I used him as a generic Wolf Priest before), but I guess I'll leave the generic one in the box since I've got the Rune Priest (good tip on the psychic hood too. It'll take a little doing since he's metal, but I know of a way to do it using a shoulder pad. Oh, and I found him an appropiate looking sword in my bits box, so he's running around less handless now).
