Need help completing my cheesy Apoc list

First of all, hope its ok that I’m posting here instead of the Apocalypse thread as I’m looking for IG specific recommendations.

So anyway, 3K Apocalypse and I’m already going to field:

  • 1 Firestorm Redoubt (Magos, Quad Gun) – because I expect some big flyers (Harridan possibly)
  • 3 Knight Titans (to run the Adamantine Lance Formation)
  • 1 Stormsword (w/double LasCan sponsons and an S10 AP1, Apoc Blast, Ignores Cover main gun)

Which only leaves me about 1K of points left. Its going to be multiple games, I can't change my list in-between, and I can’t take any other Formations (apart from the above Knights), nor Allies.

What else should I take to complete my cheesy Apocalypse list?

I could expect anything from heavy flyer Tyranids w/Harridan, to armored column IG w/Shadowsword, to Drop Pod heavy SM, to double Warhound SM, to Necron Infinite Phalanx and T-C'Tan, to Anggarath and Daemons, to Deathwing Company.

Should I then get Gunships? Arty? Russes? Hellhound variants?

I don't have another IG Super Heavy model to field.

Before anyone says Guard Blob – they die really easily to Apoc Blast templates that Ignore Cover that are aplenty in Apoc.

But, house rules are, if I still end up with a Battleforged Detachment then my Troops can get Objective Secured over non-Battleforged lists.

Should I take MSU Guard and Chimeras then?

Thanks for the opinions. I usually field my Chaos list for Apoc so this IG list will be a somewhat new thing for me.

Infantry aren't great in Apoc as they take too long to move around and die too easily but you'll need something to bulk your numbers out and help protect your main big guns especially against some of those potential foes. I reckon you should go with the mechanised Veterans plan. Gets you some troopers but also more vehicles so you don't get bogged down moving lots of models around and retain some vital mobility - and also take advantage of the house rule right?

I should have also mentioned - our Apoc games hardly get past Turn 3 (time limit in order to play a series of games). Which is why I'm fielding fewer but 'bigger' units. Therefore Deathstrikes are less reliable, besides the Stormsword is basically a 'sure fire' Deathstrike equivalent in and of itself.

Given the Turn Limit, spamming Vets in Chimeras to rush Objectives makes more sense now come to think of it (thanks Fish). But should I give them Las Cannons to help against opposing LoWs?

What about Vanquishers?

Should I get Banewolfs in case Outflanking Infantry get too close for the Stromsword?

What should I put in the Firestorm? If anything.

Thanks for the opinions.

Last Apoc game my Knight Titan went toe to toe with a Heirophant bio titan and was the victor. Don't underestimate these bad boys. What about tougher dudes like Bullgryns? Maybe some Scions to drop in where needed?

Apoc is awesome!

Yes, the 3 Knights are there to kill Heirophants, Revenants, Warhounds, Anggarath, etc. They may kill 1 but 2 should make it into CC. The Storm is there to kill Super Infantry Blobs. The Firestorm is there for Harridan, Anggarath, Thunderhawk.

I think I will go an additional 4 Infantry (Platoon) Squads with Chimeras (instead of Vets if I'm going cheap), and a Banewolf.

This weekend - we'll see how it goes. And hopefully I remember to bring my camera this time.

Edit - Additional deployment notes:

If I go up against Anggarath + Daemon horde or the Tyranid Flying Circus - I'm going to put my Knights up front, then Stormsword, then IG embarked Chimeras, and then Firestorm in the back.

If I go up against the Warhounds, the other Stormsword / Shadowsword and IG Armor - I'm going to put the Firestorm up front, then Knights, then Stormsword, and reserve the IG embarked Chimeras.

If I go up against Deathwing or Drop Pods - I'm going to put the disembarked IG bubble wrap up front, then Firestorm, then Knights, then Stormsword and reserve the empty Chimeras.

Further feedback welcome.
