I was just curious if anyone has tried this yet, but a techmarines with conversion Beamer hiding behind an aegis defense line manning the comms relay to help with "rites" and also man whatever sky fire cannon you like, just with the fact that you can take him without worrying about using a HQ slot.

Anyway if anyone thought of this or has tried it I'd love to here thoughts and outcomes

I use to play an army with conversion beamers in the past 6Th ed.

it was.

3x techmarines with conversion beamer

2x Xenos Inquisitor with conversion beamer

1 purgation squad.

so all the 5 conversions had joined the purgation squad, for a very aggressive shot, even behind cover...

I think i was the only person in the world that's played Purgation squad.

I played purgies too for a short time. I traded them in for ravens Just wasnt worth the 180 points.

Looking at past logs the conversion aegis did work when I put a half circle next to ruins. Had techie in the ruins bolstered 3 up cover with the relay touching aegis below him for 3" effect. Had rifle dread below him for the 3 up cover and land raider in the circle. Enemy couldnt ds inside the circle with out auto mishap and if he shot outside it I got a 4 up or 3 up cover on all units inside.

Good way to force your opposition to commit forces unwillingly leaving him open ndk flank or take some decently heavy fire and 80% chance of ravens or ds to enter.

Hope that helps any.

The problem is that the Tech-Marine only has one wound, so if he fails even a single save, you can't use the Comms Relay until you get another model onto it.

Honestly, I'd just either something stupidly durable (Culexus, Dreadknight, Red Hunter Centurions etc) to man the Aegis Line, or use some cheaper Allies to swarm it so barring bad rolls or TripTides, you'll have it still working Turn 1 onwards.

Well with an AD we could go

Lord Commissar, ML2 Primaris Psyker, Unit of Guard Vets, Engineseer and an Aegis with Comm Relay and Quad Gun. Total Cost 360 plus any upgrades you wish to give the Vets. That gives us the re-roll on Reserves, Anti-Air, 2 more WarpCharge plus maybe some LasCannon AT.

You can only give an Aegis line a single upgrade. So you have to choose between the AA emplacement or the Comms Relay. Dumb, I know.

Damn, looks like it'll just be comms relay then, 50pts saved but no AA.
