Psy-Crow
Does anybody have a picture of the Nurgle shoulder pad painted? The one with a massive horn bursting out of it. Its the one from the current tactical squad. I've been searching net for an hour then I remembered the good people at the BnC. Feeling a little painting fatigue with my current projects and have started painting a random chapter nurgle marine for fun and have never painted any chaos before. Thanks in adv Happy Painting Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296237-image-help/ Share on other sites

Forté
Know which pad you mean but haven't painted that one. With nurgle you can just go nuts with washes to make it look dirty and rotten. Psy-Crow
Funny you should should say that mate, thats kind of the route i'm going down. I started from a light grey prime, then base coated Thar Brown (scale 75, its a darker, creamier bleached bone). At this point I stopped for the night. The next day, before I started painting, I sat down with a cup of tea and read the latest tutorial on massive voodoo. Roman covered a wide range of topics but something that stuck with me was changing tone halfway through. He never paints one area all the way through as often the changes in hue in one area, can affect not only the look of another area, but the piece as a whole. Now when I picked up my brush, I'd been itching to use a new paint, Hull Red from Vallejo Model. Loved the colour in the bottle, love the colour on the figure. its a definite keeper. However, after painting all the trim of my Nurgle dude (possible name for the chapter, depends how silly I'm feeling) in Hull red, It looked odd compared to the armour. Alarm bells rang, CHANGE THE TONE. Hull Red is a deep red, bordering on brown, think choclatey maroon. On a colour wheel, the compliment colour is green, so I grabbed my old Waaargh Green ink (thats right, I still have half a pot), whipped up a wash and went crazy. Immediately after I had a fleeting moment of doubt, why had I just painstakingly built up a smooth coat of cream to dose it in lurid green ink? After it dried, I felt better. the green and the red looked great, and I had just learned another valuable lesson. Now i'm using a P3 colour Arcane Blue with a touch of Firestorm Yellow ink (yep, got a pot of that too) to build up a nice acid green, and then i'm going to ruin it by weathering the fudge out of it.
