Can we make an Eternal Warrior?

Gentleman, I am knew to the Grey Knights and have not posted for a while.

 

After a quick look here and a good look in the new codex, I have a problem.

 

It's all good and well paying the points for a GM with extra kit and making him a monster in CC, but I can not see a way of giving him Eternal Warrior and at Toughness 4 he will get wiped by anything St 8 or above!!!

 

Am I missing something obvious?

 

Can I just say, I am new to 7th too. I have the rule book and am working my way through it. I don't get to play often, in fact my first game with GK and 7th is not until 28/12/14.

Well draigo is the best eternal warrior in the game and dirt cheap for what he does.

 

Also grand masters are no push over. Nearly anything that can ID a GM in one hit will usually get smoked in the return attacks by force, or even before they strike by halberd/falchions or soul glaive. Theres also a decent chance the GM can roll up precognition which is like a 2.5++ invuln, and/or be buffed by sanctuary.   

 

 

Eternal Warrior is overrated IMO. You can still die from getting your wounds chipped off, which is how most models die. Instant Death is a problem, but nothing is unkillable, even with EW.

I thought still being 55 points for melta/lascannon fodder was? My mistake.

Even if Paladins had Eternal Warrior, they're still overpriced, but they'd at least survive Riptides...somewhat (it still causes a bunch of AP2 wounds, so it would maul the squad as opposed to vapourising everything). 55pts minimum is just absurd, because you invariably want to give them psycannon and nemesis upgrades...it adds up so fast, the Apothecary reduction barely matters.

To be fair, when out GKT were 40 points, 15 points for the extra wound/WS was a fair cost.

 

But Paladin needed thier cost reduced to reflect our cheaper GKT.

I agree, but that is also from an era when wound allocation kept multi-wound units alive longer, and no Riptides existed. Those latter two changes are really why Paladins are unplayable. Not to mention Centurions now exist, and do most of the Paladins job better arguably. 

For the cost of Paladins I would rather add more Terminators. I can get 5 Terminators for the price of 3 Paladins. 

 

Yes there are more wounds on the Paladins 6/5, but more firepower on the Terminators 5/3, more attacks on the Terminators 10/6.

 

There is no argument really, Paladins cost too much to be a viable option.
