Blood and Talon - Pre Heresy Raven Guard

So having (finally!) settled on my legion, this is the start of my pre heresy Raven Guard army. I'm going to do them as part of the Nomad Predation fleet, so this is exploring the more brutal and dark side of the RG, but I also want to keep true to the stealth/guerrilla roots. I'm also planning to paint some with a more grey armour and tribal markings, to explore the link to the Carcharodons, who are my favourite 40k chapter.

My first purchase was;

5 each of Mks II, IV, V and VI (4 and 6 for the more traditional RG and 2 and 5 for the more brutal Nomad Predation aspect),

10 Umbra and 10 Tigrus bolters,

And Tyberos the Red Wake, who I'm going to convert into a Primus Medicae to go with my Terminator squad.

I ordered this stuff this morning, hopefully it'll arrive soon! Thought I'd start the thread now though :) partly so you guys see this and make sure I stick to the Raven Guard!

In terms of the 'Carcharodon' stuff, all my tactical marines will have extra CCW to show the brutal aspect, and I'm going to use terminators in my army which RG generally don't use. But I also have a squad of Mor Deythan and the two independent characters from Massacre in my list. Here is my army list for those interested:

Nomad Predation Raven Guard (2500pts)

* Legion Centurion (135pts)

Raven's Talon, Terminator Armour, Primus Medicae

* Moritat-Prime Kaedes Nex (155pts)

* Strike Captain Alvarex Maun (140pts)

Decapitation Strike

* Legion Tactical Squad (235pts)

10 Men

Legion Drop Pod, Legion Vexilla, additional CCW

Artificer Armour, Power Weapon on Sergeant

* Legion Tactical Squad (235pts)

Legion Drop Pod, Legion Vexilla, additional CCW

Artificer Armour, Power Weapon on Sergeant

* Legion Tactical Squad (235pts)

Legion Drop Pod, Legion Vexilla, additional CCW

Artificer Armour, Power Weapon on Sergeant

* Legion Terminator Squad (365pts)

10 Men, Reaper Autocannon, Tartaros Armour

Pair of Raven's Talons on Sergeant

* Mor Deythan Strike Squad (590pts)

10 Men, 10x Combi-weapon

* Darkwing Storm Eagle

Armoured Ceramite

* Dark Fury Assault Squad (325pts)

10 Men

* Legion Javelin Attack Speeder (85pts)

Twin-linked Lascannon

I'm also gonna work on some fluff to include the Nomad Predation and normal RG, I was thinking something like Corax called back the Nomad Predation fleets in preparation for Istvaan and mine is one that answered the call, and kinda rejoined the legion when Corax realised the enemy they were up against in the aftermath of Istvaan. How does that sound, plausible?

Thanks for looking guys!

Well done on making your choice brother! You do us all proud

Good choice of legion and nice take on them

Cant wait to see you get started on this...but I think if I was a casualty, the last medic I would like to see is someone looking tyberos haha

Well done again

Thanks!

Haha you and me both brother! He's there for the violent brutal side... I had to get Tyberos in there somehow! I forgot to say I also ordered the GK terminator Apothecary parts to convert Tyberos, so he will actually have apothecary tools... Not just claws and saws haha.

Apothecaries have claws and saws anyways lol...just smaller...

Anyways, I quite look forward to this! And decently happy that one of the indecisive's has finally settled on a Legion xD (nothing against the others..)

Luckily for you, you're only 10 marine bodies away from having all your 30 for the 3 squads in drop pods, so at least you'll have the core of the list down pretty fast! Just need those drop pods...

Will also be curious to see how you do Alvarex Maun and Kaedes Nex, hopefully one of them (if not both) gets a model :p

Hey man nice to see you starting this. Will try and get those bits out to you tomorrow.

When thinking of background you can change things and do counts as. The Raven Guard had tons of Moritats, yours doesnt have to be Nex in your background. And when i was looking at Nomad Pred fleets I was going to call my Mor Deythan Shadow Walkers, basically pre Corax versions. Or, if you want a really cool take send 100Heathens a PM and ask about his skin walker idea. I am sure he wont mind sharing.

Haha I'm glad I've settled too! I'm trying to put as much in the way of me changing again as possible haha (this thread, placing my order). I actually feel pretty concrete about them though! I haven't actually thought about how I'm going to do Alvarex and Kaedes haha. I wonder if I could use Shadow Captain Korvydae for Kaedes? With pistols instead of the hammer (and obviously a different backpack). Any way, thanks Slipstreams, you've been a big help with getting me settled and building my lists :)

Thank you for that, I really appreciate it :) everyone in this community is so helpful! And yeah good point on the counts as, I like that idea. I did see 1000heathens post in another thread about the skin walkers, and thought it was an awesome idea! I just don't know how to represent it haha.

You're also relatively safe in that your going to primarily be doing black/white/grey. White will be the hardest but since its not too prominent (unless your doing RG vets with white helm/arms ) then you'll be fine. Prime Black and you've got 90% of an RG scheme done :P rest is just detailing and making it look good. Tears of the Raven, as you've probably seen, has a Plog on this very subforum that you could use as inspiration / source of help as well as the WIP section being full of useful stuff. You could also ask the black templars...though their whole ZEAL! thing might be off putting, they are Loyalist Sons of Dorn! :P

These is a gw grwy base painy that begins with a C, that is good for small areas of white detailing. Give it a slight agrax earthsade wash and it will tie into the black. if you use decals the same wash will tie it in and a bit of that grey base will fix any areas that go to dark.

Pffft our zeal has kept us true to the ideals of the great crusade for over 10,000 years!! The only true sons of the emprah in this darkest of ages.... And yes i do deny the existence of the latest heresy that is our retcons!!! Lol

But yeah a black scheme is a great way to start off :)

I was looking at maybe getting some resin bases from: http://elementgames.co.uk/wargames-and-miniatures/bases-for-miniatures/round-bases-for-miniatures but I don't know which ones, are there any that you guys think especially suit the RG?
