Gentlemanloser
One small changes is that the Raven now has a locator beacon instead of a teleport homer as an upgrade (courtesy of mindless copypaste from the Marine book) It's been the only wargear option (no TH) since DftS was released. Most recent rules and all that. If you chose to ignore DftS, that's your prerogative! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296355-purifiers-ravens-and-reserves-manipulation/page/2/#findComment-3813042 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
Problem with the locator beacon is you need to wait until turn 3 to use it! Thats too long to keep anything embarked with the risk of crashing. Gentlemanloser
You could take a Skyshield with Ready for Takeoff and use it turn 1. Brom MKIV
Ive considered the landing pad, and actually I'd probably take one for a test spin except being forced to stay in hover for a turn pushes it out of the realm of worthwhile for my purposes. Everon
Where does it say that it can have flyers turn 1? Ive looked around but only can fine that you can unfurl for ds no scatter or shielded for 4++ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296355-purifiers-ravens-and-reserves-manipulation/page/2/#findComment-3813755 Share on other sites

shandwen
Yup. In stronhold assault you can start a flyer in hover on the board. The catch is that it vant go to flyer mode that turn. Everon
Quite intriguing. Just a question of is it worth the risk of being shot down by everything turn one Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296355-purifiers-ravens-and-reserves-manipulation/page/2/#findComment-3813890 Share on other sites
Captain Coolpants
Nope! I'll never do it. My ravens usually get shot down when it's zooming, so no way am I gonna have it hovering turn 1 with stuff inside. Gentlemanloser
You go first, it moves, whatever's inside disembarks using Skies of Fury with scatter form your locator beacon. You go second, and you've got the Skyshield to protect the Stormraven. It's not as bad as it sounds. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296355-purifiers-ravens-and-reserves-manipulation/page/2/#findComment-3814002 Share on other sites

Brom MKIV
Without the ability to zoom I feel the landing pad just makes the raven worse than a bubble wrapped land raider. Captain Coolpants
I'd rather use a landraider. Give it a full flat out move and an extra 6 instead of shooting. Goes the same distance as the stormraven in hover mode, just the cargo remain far safer. Just of course the downside to this is that you're paying extra for the good guns on the raider and not just the extra AV, so you essentially waste them for a turn or 2 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296355-purifiers-ravens-and-reserves-manipulation/page/2/#findComment-3814160 Share on other sites
IndigoJack
If you use the skyshield and stormraven combo, you generally have a good idea on whether or not you're going first or second at deployment, so if you think you're going second, just put the stormraven in reserve and fly it on Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296355-purifiers-ravens-and-reserves-manipulation/page/2/#findComment-3814488 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
Even better, you can furl it up to give an Allied ground unit a 4+ invul (say Dev Centurions), and it can still mount a Comms Array. Brom MKIV
It doesn't have that option unfortunately. Only those listed as fortifications can get the comms upgrade if you notice.
