Allart01
I noticed some of my Legion MK III torsos have lightning bolts. Aren't those supposed be the Emperor's symbol during the unification wars? And didn't the Astartes come into play AFTER he switched to the aquila? Long story short... what do they mean? What kind of badge are they? http://megabitzshop.com/bilder/produkte/gross/Forge-World-Bitz-Legion-MK-III-Torso-C_1_b3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296364-lightning-bolts/ Share on other sites
Lucien Eilam
No, the earliest Space Marines were around to fight in the final battles of the Unification Wars. The mark of Imperial Unity was the thunderbolt and lightning, and would be on the armour of veterans. The Emperor's Children were the only Legion permitted to wear the Aquila during the Great Crusade. Loyalist Space Marines didn't switch to the Aquila en masse until the last days of the Heresy. Allart01
So a marine wearing that chestplate fought during the unification wars? Nice. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296364-lightning-bolts/#findComment-3802312 Share on other sites
Lucien Eilam
Or inherited it from someone who did. I'm not sure the exact point of transition has been defined either - they may still have used it during the early Great Crusade. Lord Commander Scrymgeour
IIRC there are two aquillas in use during the HH timescale also. The palatine aquilla (2 headed) and another design. Can't remember where I got this from though right now. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296364-lightning-bolts/#findComment-3802358 Share on other sites

Slips
I know, Its just that Scrym was wondering about the Eagle symbols of the Emperor, one being the Palatine Aquila (twin-headed eagle) while forgetting what the other one looks like. I was just supposing that the unification era eagle head could've been the other Eagle symbol of the Emperor. Marshal Rohr
There is the Aquila Militaris (IIRC) which is the post Martian Union symbol of the Imperium. The Raptor Imperialis, which is the symbol for Unification Vets. The Palatine Aquila is the Emperor's personal sigil, which only the III could wear. Tyrannicide
No. The symbols are very close, but the distinction between one another is clear in the fluff. The Aquila is the symbol of the Imperium. The Palatine Aquila is the personal sigil of the Emperor, with the Emperor's Children being the only Legion granted the honor of wearing it.
