1st game with new Wolves Dex

So yesterday I played my first game with the new Space Wolves Codex (and 7th ed as well).

It was 2000 pts vs Deathwing Dark Angels.

My opponents list was pretty straight forward.  5 units of termies, a unit of deathwing Knights with Belial and librarian in a Land raider Crusader, and a Demolisher.

My list was a mix of a of the new stuff from the codex.  Wolf lord on TWM, 5 Thunderwolf(naked), Wolf Priest with 15 Blood Claws in a Storm Wolf, 10 grey hunters in drop pod, 10 grey hunters in rhino, 10 grey hunters for back field objectives, 1 pack of long fangs(4 HB, 1 LasCan), Ven dread with axe and shield, Murder Fang.

I got first turn and split fire with the Long Fangs, The las cannon targets the Demolisher.  It fails it's cover save and i roll a 6(+1) on the vehicle damage table.  1 shot 1 kill =).  The drop pod drops in but mishaps and ends up in my deploy zone.  That unit becomes basically useless from that point on.  Everyone else moves forward.

My opponent deep strikes a unit of termies in but they scatter.  Lucky for him he ends up to the left/rear of my venerable...bypassing his shield.  That units fire combined with come cyclone missile launchers bring down the venerable.  The Land raider moves up and drops off the Deathwing Knights.  The land raider pops my rhino and the Knights decimate the grey hunters that were inside of it.  They Hunters managed to take down 1 of the Knights

Turn 2:  The Storm Wolf comes in from reserves and hauls rump toward his deploy zone.  Murderfang detours toward the unit of termies that deep struck in.  They were on the other side of some ruins.  So Murderfang busts through like the Kool-Aid man and slaughters the entire unit.  The Storm wolf shooting was not very effective, the Long fangs fired at the Knights killing 1.  The TWC and lord swept up the left side of the board towards an objective and my opponents deploy zone. The back field Grey hunter formed a firing line and fired at the Knights...but the knights made all of their savings throws.

My opponent pressed his Knights closer to my deploy zone.  His librarian Psychic Shrieked and killed 5 of the long fangs.  The Land Raider shot at Murderfang but the crazed dreadnought passed all of his cover saves.  The remaining termies fired at various units but had little effect.  During the assault phase the combined might of the Knights, Belial, and Librarian killed all but 1 of the back field group of grey hunters.  They grey hunters managed to kill 2 of the knights thus eliminating their Shield Wall rule.  The remaining Grey Hunter failed morale and ran toward the table edge.

Turn 3.  The Storm Wolf went into hover mode and the blood claws came streaming out.  Murder fang made his way toward Belial and what remained of his unit.  The TWC and lord closed in on a squad of termies holding an objective.  The blood claws shot their pistols and killed a termie and then charged.  With 60 attacks and ~40 hits not even terminator armor could hold up.  The TWC charged and completely wiped out a unit of termies.  The Storm Wolf shot but again failed to impress.  Murderfang charged and despite the 2 storm shields chopped down the unit leaving only Belial in his wake of destruction.

At this point we decided to call the game.  I have 5 tactical objectives as well as line breaker, first blood, and slay the warlord was but a turn away.  My opponent only had 3 tac objs.

Points of note.

1.  Deathwing Knights can wreck your whole game plan.  They killed 2 whole packs of grey hunters and a pack of long fangs.

2.  The Storm Wolf did great at transporting the large pack of Blood claws but otherwise failed to impress.  This maybe because i was fighting all termies and its weapon load out is more suitable for MEQ ect.

3.  Murderfang wrecked face.  From busting through the wall like KoolAid man to single handedly killing 10 terminators this was a wrecking machine.

4.  I was actually impressed with the Blood Claws and Wolf Priest combo.  They dealt out some serious hurt.

Indeed. Congratulations, glad to the crazed Murderfang being as awesome as he sounds. Just wished the Axe and Shield dreadnought had done the same. I just finished one and am thinking of fielding it against my friend's nids.

The Shield/Axe dude has a completely different job. I see an awful lot of people complaining about the blizzard dude because many expect him to do the job of someone else. Value of a unit is not solely measured by kills or how many points it gets back.

I am tempted to put up a BlizzDread Tactica and redeem this awesome fella.
