Castellan Blackmane
So guys, I'm in the process of building my wolves list and I have roughly a thousand points. I'd like to hear your thoughts on where to go from here. To be clear I'm not all that into sweaty play as I'm more interested in fluff and coolness of the models etc. So what should I take to balance out the army? I'm thinking of going down the dreadnought route and/or even some of the new flyers possibly even thunderwolves. I'd quite like to go for units that are unique to the wolves. So here's my list so far HQ Ragnar blackmane 2 rune priests (Not got them yet but I really like them Troops 2 grey hunter packs in drop pods (one with teleport becon)Elites 5 wolf guard terminators (Deep strike in with the teleport beacon)heavy support 6 long fangs So what next? Bjorn or some other dreadnought? Cavalry or flyers? Lets hear what you guys think Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296455-balancing-my-force/ Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Where will you be putting the RP and Ragnar? In the pods with Hunters? This rather limits their effectiveness because they will be lacking a special weapon. As for the list, I would be getting a third pod so that 2 come down first turn. You could put 9 GH there or simply 5-7 PAWG and have space to ride for Ragnar or Rune Priests. I would also look at either WG bikes or TWC, put your Rune Priests on bikes and have them ride with them. Rift Blade
I have to agree with Immersturm. A 3rd pod kinda like the Claws of Russ for a fluff point of view. For actual units, I goota say TWC cavalry but I'm biased. I love them & run them in most of my lists. They are a hard hitting fire magnet of a unit. More importantly they can run up the board to support your pods quickly. That being said, Sky Claws are an option as are WG bikers. Both of these units would allow you to put your RP in with them. One last option is the old guideline of 1 troop for every 500 pts so maybe another Gray Hunter pack or a big pack of BC's to accompany Ragnar say in a Land Raider Crusader(downside is that's a lot of cash to put out). Good Luck. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296455-balancing-my-force/#findComment-3804167 Share on other sites
viddar
With your interest in dreads I'd suggest a third pod with a dread inside, then maybe some bloodclaws in a stormwolf (doesn't need to be a full strength unit). Thunderwolves are good but in my experience they need some other units advancing on the ground to mess up target priority. ADHD-Spacewolf
The third drop pod is a good idea fluff wise. Maybe with grey hunters in it I think you would also need a fast unit Bikes would allow for the rune priest to join. I am a sucker for fast attack so I would suggest also twc or swift claw to move up with the bikes. The other rune priest could be a terminator with your terminators, or maybe with one of the gh squads. Spazmonkey
The third Pod also means you can bring in 2 Pods automatically on your first turn rather than only one and having to reply on reserves. You can even run it empty some times just for this purpose. this also means you can get enough feet on the ground to distract and allow your other units to get across the board. I would go with thunder wolves and then also flesh out your heavy support. I personally love Whirlwinds, and would also look at the Stornwolf / fang for flyer and extra heavy support. With this list I would not worry about a land raider as it will just be the target of any heavy weapons you opponent has as it would be the only real amour on the table. Would be to much of a target and you risk just spending 200+ points on a massive fire magnet. Skyclaws as mentioned would be good for this as they can effectively keep up with you Thunder wolves on the other wing of the board and still be assaulting around the same time. With fast moving units your drop pod chaps only need to last 2-3 turns before the rest of your army is assaulting. And with Wolves unleashed you can have the Stormwolf / fang coming in turn 2 to put the pressure on. you can have one of the rune priests in the jump pack unit. the other on a thunderwolf. maybe have Ragnar in the storm wolf with 5 bloodClaws.
