grand_master85
So, I'm getting back to my Alpha Legion now I'm nearing completion on my Salamanders. But I'm curious as to other's opinion; I'm going to use the Coils of the Hydra RoW, and if I steal a unit from a different Legion, how do I paint them up? I'm looking at using the Fire Drakes and Templar Brethren,Do I paint them in Alpha Legion colours? Do I paint them in their standard Legion colours? Do I remove the actual Legion symbols and replace them with the Alpha symbols, keep their symbols or remove them all completely and have them black? Can't decide. Olis
Personally, I see them as infiltrators wearing disguises. So, parent Legion colours with parent Legion iconography for the unit in question is the route I'd go. Adra'Melek
If it was me I'd go the other way. They've nicked the equipment rather than super secret spies. So I'd paint them with Alpha symbols and colours. Although painting them in Legion colours means they can be used with proper legion if you wanted. Fire Golem
I would go with AL colours because I love the AL colours. You could maybe do parent legion colours, and have a little hydra painted somewhere inconspicuous like as a tattoo or on a knee pad or something. grand_master85
Well, I don't intend on having all the Legions. And there are some schemes I couldn't bear to try (looking at you, Fisties). I've got a Salamanders army already, so using the Fire Drakes in Salamanders colours works, but I made my own Templars in mk III armour so painting them in Alpha Legion colours sounds rather tempting in itself. Brother Captain Lucian
I would paint the unit with the original legion scheme, possibly with some subtle AL symbols. Wyvern
Yeah sorry buddy i know well your pain on the yellow. but i'd have thought they'd have infiltrated therefore be in the original legion colours but with subtle alpha icons some where about their person Saying that tho basically its your army and are completely free to do what ever the hell you want :) maybe have the firedrakes as having recently infiltrated and the templars having accomplished their mission so revealed their true colours.... Pun unfortunately intended lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296513-the-rewards-of-treason/#findComment-3804949 Share on other sites
marine7312000
An idea would be to do a faint wash over the colors of the legion that the Alphas are mimicking. Or to use a slightly darker or lighter color to do some scale shapes somewhere on the figure. I'm thinking with the second idea using a variant color so close to the original that you'd have to know to look for the difference. A third idea would really only work if you were open to doing battle damage and would see the models overall in the other legion's colors, but battle damage and chipped paint revealing the Alpha legion underneath. Millicant
I think it really depends on your theme, as others have mentioned. Are they Alpha Legionaires who have infiltrated the other legions' unique units, and have only just revealed their true allegiance? Or are they Alpha Legionaires who have acquired the special wargear (and possibly training) of the other legions' unique units, but still fight as a part of the Alpha Legion? Russ Brother 92
In all honesty I see these guys as deep cover specialists, if you're running about near the Primarch and First Captain for their respective legions then you need to be well hidden... So what Marine73... said sounds great, either Legion colours with a small token to prove they're AL (helps against friendly fire as well) or battle damage showing AL colours under their armour. grand_master85
Well, my Alpha Legion army is going to be in predominantly mk III armour and it incorporates lots of the Imperial Fists upgrade kits (A lot of the marines have the Helmets and some have the IF chests with the symbols removed. I just wanted to use those gorgeous IF helmets in sotek green, silver and bronze ), so I might go for a cop-out and, say, do the Templars in AL colours (cos I really do hate painting yellow) and then do various units from other Legions in their own schemes with just some small identifying marker somewhere to show their actually Alphas Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296513-the-rewards-of-treason/#findComment-3805477 Share on other sites
