Donkalleone
I will intentionaly post it here rather than in the army list sub-forum cause is more of a general Unit Selection question. Short Army List 1 Rune Priest (Termi) ; Arjac Shieldbrothers [5x TH/SS Termi (CML), Landraider ( EA, MM ) , Arjac] ; 2 x 10 GH (2 MG) in Rhino ; 5 Longfangs (2 LC ,2 ML) ; Venedictor . I have 80 points over in my Army Build and want/need a Unit that can Hold an objectiv. It isnt there to contest but rather take a "save" one. i thought of 4 options 1. 5x Gray Hunters , "Ranged" , Slow , 5 Wounds 2. 5x Skyclaws : Fast , not so good at Range (WS/BS 3), 5 Wounds 3. Razorback with TL-LC or LasPlas + Stormbolter that Starts with the Long Fangs , can move Seperatly. Armor 11/11/10 , Tank/Transport, 3HP . Medium DMG 4. Landspeeder with Heavy Bolter or Flamer + Typhoon Missle Launcher. Armor 10/10/10 , Fast/Skimmer , 2 HP, Good Dmg (5. Predator?) So i have various possibilties and as new Player no real expierience. Secondly i will have to buy the Units, So i want/tend to buy Unit thats versatil and has multiple uses, but willing to buy if that unit is exeptional in this role. I have personal prefference but wont voice it for now . they are not in a particular order. So please tell me your insight Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296589-the-80-points-question-unit-discussion/ Share on other sites
Dyemor
I personally like the 5x Scout Snipers with Cammo Cloaks but that comes in at 85pts. If you could find 5pts somewhere they can sit on an objective in cover and have a 36" range coverage with the rifles and hopefully a good cover save. Nadir
I would go with Predator. Cheap and easy to use ;) Or a Land Speeder with melta and h. flamer for one nasty bogger to slow down horde or a tank. But I think, that a single Speeder wont live too long. Dyemor
Thematically I think that the Razorback you mentioned is a nice touch. All the troops in transports is quite cool. Leif Bearclaw
Well, you've heard my view already in the army list sub-forum, Land Speeder all the way . Donkalleone
Thanks for the Help so far Predator is too Costly (For me at least 100pts). Scouts are interresting but too specialized. I can magnetize the WG/GH/BC to be Skyclaws but i cant magnetize Scouts from other units. Rune Priest Jbickb
Another option might be Fenrisian wolves. Fast with 10 wounds for 80, not as durable as a marine but not bad. Reede
I wouldn't count scouts out for being too specialized. While yes, they definitely do have a particular role, which is backfield fire support (anything else and I doubt you'll get a lot of use out of them), but one thing to remember is that they're not limited very much in what they shoot at. Toughness values mean absolutely nothing to Sniper Rifles. Say your opponent is bring in large monstrous creatures (i.e. Tyranids or Daemons). Most of the stuff in your army is going to have a hard time really putting wounds on those, but your scouts, 50% chance no matter what, and a small chance to even go through their armour. The other great thing that people just seem to forget, is that they are one of the VERY FEW models in the game that still have precision. Which means if you have a squad that's staring down a rather difficult assault next turn, you can attempt to shoot special weapons out of squads that could cause issues, essentially neutering some opponents. Now I'm not talking about Characters / Independent Characters here (though at least regular chars are a bit easier), since they can look out sir things away, but models carrying a special weapon such as a flamer, melta, plasma, etc... don't get that option, and nothing hurts more when those guys die. I feel like I come into a lot of these threads to really preach the amazingness of scouts, but I've seen them do so many incredibly things insane. My friends Salamander Scouts are actually known throughout our entire Hobby Store for the crazy things they've done. I've now played two games with and they seem to be telling me that they fully intend to live up to that Salamander reputation that's become so infamous, which makes me more than a happy camper. Rift Blade
Gotta agree about the WS. Don't knock them till you try them. THey're a good fire support unit in your deployment zone with a good cover save. It's not to far fetched to try & use them as bait sometimes as well. Otherwise, a Land Speeder. My 2 cents.
