Vehicles...

Greetings everyone,

before committing to buying the codex, I perused the GW site to view all the Grey Knight vehicle options. They are not listed under the army. Can you fill me in on how their options are structured? I'm interested in playing these instead of Wolves as my 2nd army. I'm new around this block, so thanks in advance for any assistance.

Ignore all our ground armour, its terrible and overpriced.

Raven and Allied drop pods are our best transport options. Raven is especially nice as you can assault out of it (not the turn it arrives, but the one thereafter), and its a respectable gunship as well, so after the cargo drops off you still get heaps of mileage out of it.

I don't think the same about Land Raider variants... they are so good... I'm thinking to play two of them

Do none of your regular opponents have melta?

They have!

but NDK seems to be a bigger threat.

A least they last until i get close enough to throw away a purifiers assault

Fair enough. I dunno, I find LR's just too expensive for what they do, and my local meta still has enough melta to make them not worthwhile for me.

I have 2 fully painted land raiders, one heavily converted RT era raider but they haven't seen the table in years. If I were to bust them out it would be as FW variants, the achilles and spartan specifically. These are what I would suggest to you brother.

Yeah definitely agree about Spartans, they've got quad lascannon sponsons and a huge transport capacity. Bit expensive though (shrug)

My LR never found a place in my army through 5th 6th and 7th edition and sitis unpainted on the shelf. 250 pts is so huge and damage output oh so little. Which unit should ride in that thing - I can only think of purifiers as most units are better of deep striking. Raven is faster and less expensive if it comes in round two. If you play the NSF I would definitely get a raven and a comms relay instead. Main difference is one less LC but on the other hand you are laughing about terrain and melta.

I know there are some ideas about Raider spam out there right now, but I think it's a silly idea, esp for GK as our units are so damn expensive. And OS LR require terminators...so good luck with that...

Concerning rhinos / razors... I don't know. Loss of psybolts killed razors and the only use I could see in rhinos is beeing a deathtrap for purifiers. First time you might get them in nova range but it is a one trick pony. Next game it will certainly be blown to pieces asap.

Last edition I would have recommend vehicles but with the new edition you might want to try out / proxy them before buying. You might get disappointed otherwise...

This is the main problem actually. Its not that land raiders aren't useful or durable. Its that outside of delivery of contents they do not put out the damage they need to. This is where the forgeworld variants differ. Then in addition they get near immunity to melta.
