Thunder_god
Hi all. Can a TDA Lone Wolf still take an axe and a SS? If not, what's a better option? I have a model to rebuild and I'm curious to what's the consensus of a decent build these days. Thanks in advance. Vash113
No he cannot take an axe and shield anymore unfortunately. A common replacement is a Wolf Claw and Storm Shield, or you can take a Thunder Hammer. WG Vrox
For me a lone wolf fills two roles. Distraction unit that can soak up some fire and an interceptor that will bog down incoming units such as MCs, infiltrators or Walkers. For this role 2 Fen Wolves a SS and TDA is a must. The main question then is which melee weapon to take and for me I like the Thunder Hammer. Concussive brings any unit with an init down to 1, so if you don't kill it outright you have a pretty good chance you will get your attacks in on the following assault. Thunder_god
I think the TH route will be the way to remodel him. The next question is, mainly because I just can't recall, but can he take a drop pod? And if so, can the two wolves tag along in it with him? I don't think so, but I just can't remember. Thanks again. Will Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296778-lone-wolf-question/#findComment-3810229 Share on other sites
FenrisWolf
He can ride in a pod, but you'd have to get it as a Fast Attack slot (i.e. non dedicated transport). As to whether or not the wolves can ride is an open question. Our dex in this edition is unclear. It needs to be FAQ'ed. WG Vrox
Don't forget that deep strike is an option as well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296778-lone-wolf-question/#findComment-3810237 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Dex may be unclear, but the rule book is very clear. Page 80: "Only infantry models can embark upon transports [...], unless specifically stated otherwise." Wolves are Beasts. So, you either slog the LW with wolves or deepstrike/use transport without them. Thunder_god
Thank you. I knew there had to be a positive answer somewhere. TDA, TH, SS, & two wolves sounds like a lot of fun! Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Every time I read something and I'm like, "Hey!! I know the answer to that!!" someone has already answered the question. Most of the time, it's Val!! I have been deep striking a TDWLW with TH / SS to some satisfaction. The ability to place (fingers crossed) a distraction of that magnitude is quite nice, and for me serves as an the ultimate way to seek a glorious death. Teleport straight into the middle of some serious :cuss and do some killing!! FenrisWolf
Technically then can his wolves deep strike? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296778-lone-wolf-question/#findComment-3810825 Share on other sites
Thunder_god
Nope. As stayed above they have to foot slog with him or be left in the kennel. Frater Cornelius
No, Deep Strike is given by Terminator Armour. Last time I checked FW do not have it... though by the Emperor, wouldn't that be awesome :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296778-lone-wolf-question/#findComment-3810831 Share on other sites
Thunder_god
It would be awesome to materialize a berserk Lone Wolf and two ravening wolves! The shock value would be worth it alone. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I still think dropping a TDALW is enough to make most enemies stand up and take notice!! Transport nodes on their collars!! LoL End of Line Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296778-lone-wolf-question/#findComment-3810879 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Hm, let me explain why you can not deep strike with Wolves. SW do not teleport. They jump out of the air locks. This is the reason they arrive turn 2 or later. It takes a while to get to the ground if you are falling from orbit. The thing is, Fenrisian Wolves can not handle the heat when entering the atmosphere. And that is why you have to deep strike alone :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296778-lone-wolf-question/#findComment-3810882 Share on other sites

They remove a round from the bombardment cannon, step inside, then get the wolves to push the button. It's more accurate, gets them into battle faster and the reason why the wolves can't come. The reason for the slight delay is usually because the wolves start chewing the button and wires instead of hitting it with their paws. gwarsh41
I would suggest TDA, wolf claw, storm shield and melta bombs. Should be able to hold its own against most opponents half decently. Frater Cornelius
I would suggest TDA, wolf claw, storm shield and melta bombs. Should be able to hold its own against most opponents half decently. Solid build, albeit a bit expensive. The key here would be to give the enemy different targets to deal with so that the LW can get into combat and wreck faces. gwarsh41
I am a bit cheesed GW removed the chainfist/stormshield combo. That would have been excellent to deep strike back behind some tanks. Frater Cornelius
Aye, but you can still take combi-melta and blow a tank up when you deep strike behind it ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296778-lone-wolf-question/#findComment-3811823 Share on other sites
