Shadrach03
So after reading through allies and reserves posts over the last couple weeks it seems hard to find a better ally hq out there. He really has everything that I think anyone would want in a named gk librarian only in an ultramarine wrapper. This got me to thinking that the next time I get around to buying some models I will go with the plastic librarian with the staff and convert him to have gk heraldry and just call him Hyperion and his hammernators will be converted to look like specialized gk terminators who focus their psychic powers into an invul save. jeffersonian000
Works for me. I'm half tempted to run Beliel and a squad of Destheing as Mordrwk and his Ghost Knights, so I see no issues with running Tiggy as a "GK" Librarian with a bunch of Hammernater "Paladins". It's just us fixing what Geedub broke. SJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296813-tigurius/#findComment-3810896 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
I've done Belial + Deathwing as Mordy + Ghostknights many times. :) Go for it! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296813-tigurius/#findComment-3810943 Share on other sites
Raktra
We used to be able to give our Termies TH/SS back in third, so there's background enough for it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296813-tigurius/#findComment-3810951 Share on other sites
Shadrach03
I like the Belial idea. I made a simple Mordrak conversion a long time ago using chains and skulls from the empire flagellant kit all over his armor to act as tokens from his fallen brothers and made a torn banner strip to wrap around his hammer. Now he'll just be my cuirass and hammer gm. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296813-tigurius/#findComment-3811006 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
Belial+friends are as expensive as us though, and you can't attach to Deathwing otherwise they lose their Deathwing Assault and Belial loses his 'no scatter 1st Turn Deepstrike' ability. Agreed about Tiggy, he's absurdly good at making our Nemesis Strikeforce work. Shadrach03
I agree that he's expensive for a trick, more of a hey I want to field a Mordrak style character and Belial fits the bill. The conversions are strictly fluffy with other armies units to fit the bill RD,your championing of Tigurius is what made me think of converting him to look like a gk libby. Reclusiarch Darius
He pretty much is a Grey Knight, we just lucked out in never getting the best Prognosticar to have ever lived inducted on Titan before the Ultramarines got him. My biggest annoyance with Tiggy is he can't take TDA. Seriously. Any pleb Codicier or Epistolary can go in TDA, but the Chief Librarian only wears PA because...reasons? Shadrach03
Rewrite the gk book with Tigurius cut and pasted in with a swap to gk army rules and that would be a much more interesting book to work with. Shadrach03
So I was grappling with how to make terminators look suitably tough without adding storm shields and I arrived on the forge world cataphractii terminators. They have the bulk and unique style to set them apart from the rest of the army and should be easy enough to make look good. Not that they don't already. They last hurdle is to figure out a proxy for dev cents. I was thinking some sort of psychic artillery type unit but haven't figure out what models would look good for this role. Any suggestions? If you can get a look at one, there's converted Sentinels that are basically heavy weapons on legs in the old Witch Hunters codex. Ideal. Shadrach03
So let me know if this sounds lame but while I was mowing my lawn I was thinking of a fluffy reason that Grey Knight hammernators would exist without their aegis, psyker levels and so forth. Bear with me as this may be a stretch but it sounded good in my head with a mower droning on. Oh and I was toying with calling them Warden Terminators. On the brother path to becoming a paladin he must hone his martial skills to a razors edge (ws5) and one of the trials he must abstain from accessing his powers in battle to refine his skills in combat. To help facilitate this the brother's aegis armor is replaced with a new suit of armor with a runic gauntlet. This suit of armor interupts the connection to the warp and manifests his psychic energy as a shield so that while he may not call upon his strength to slay his foes he will be able to weather the storm of battle to meet his enemy in melee. The armor also has the effect of defending the wearer from attacks that would normally be lethal to a psyker (no brotherhood of psykers) such as psych out grenades, condermer bolt guns etc. With this defense it also befalls the Wardens to pursue heretic culexus assassins who would otherwise cripple their battle lines. The chapter command will often accompany the Wardens into battle to aid them with their Rites of Teleportation that the warden armor inhibits. During the battle the Wardens will act as an achor for the knights to rally around holding crucial objectives and escape routes sundering any foe foolish enough to come near with hammers. /rant off Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296813-tigurius/#findComment-3812829 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
You've created a rules-relevant unit with interesting background, cool wargear, and a unique place in our Chapter's roster. It'll never happen because that would mean our codex would improve ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296813-tigurius/#findComment-3812881 Share on other sites
Shadrach03
True enough. It makes me want to fall to my knees and curse the heavens while the camera pans out and fades to the end credits. We'll see what they do to us in 4 more years lol. Meanwhile in my fantasy land where the GK codex got cool new units full of flavor I had an idea for proxy dev cents. Grey Knight Conduit Many of the Chapters librarians are unsurprisingly selected and trained for their duties as their powers develop throughout their career, there are a few however who's destiny leads them down a very different path. On a rare occasion during the heat of battle a brother will become overwhelmed with the righteous fury of the Emperor, driving his enemies from the field and slaying all who stand against him. Many brothers regain their composure after the din of battle subsides but there are a few who begin to draw to heavily on their psychic might and have what the librarius calls "an epiphany". When this happens the brother becomes a pipeline to the power of the warp, dropping his weapons and smiting enemies with power that even the mightiest of psykers would be hard pressed to resist. His brothers must act quickly for time is of the essence and even in the heat of battle the chosen knight must be teleported out of the battle into the care of the chapters librarians and apothecaries. Other chapters would be forced to slay their comrade but the knights strength of body and soul allow him to serve the Emperor yet. For the next several decades the Conduits will spend their time crafting their near limitless destructive power into a tool more suitable for supporting his chapter as a librarian, but all Grey Knights must be ready for war no matter what their calling. When these Knights join the field it is clad in unique aegis armor bound by powerful wards to allow them to contain their power during battle. They carry no sword or bolter but instead cast searing bolts of light, crackling warp lightning or simply crush the armor of man and vehicle with a thought(lascannon, heavy bolters, grav cannon). Such is the power coursing through them that they seem to be possessed of fortitude beyond that of any normal marine(centurion warsuit) shrugging of wounds that would kill many other marines. These students are often lead in battle by the chapters grand master or librarians. Before being lost to the warp Lord Draigo was said to take great interest in leading a group of Conduits personally so that they may benefit from his psychic guidance and his tactical genius. A campaign with the Lord was said to take years off of a students training further refining him to a leader of the chapter. Shadrach03
On page 29 where it discusses heraldry. "Rarer are red swords on black that show the Emperor’s righteous rage, and the madness that faith can bring. A battle-brother that bears a red sword has been driven to the edge of his duty and managed to claw his way back, bloody but alive." That was part of the inspiration that I had for this unit. Quozzo
Just give it time. One will fall to chaos eventually. These students are often lead in battle by the chapters grand master or librarians. A campaign with the Lord was said to take years off of a students training further refining him to a leader of the chapter. I do like that except as most centurions do seem to be teleporting around everywhere through the warp, without the use of TDA or the Aegis i might add Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296813-tigurius/#findComment-3813170 Share on other sites
Captain Coolpants
See! You have good ideas. Unlike those boring ass peeps who gave us nothing new.
