Gentlemanloser
You've already decided to take Tiggy, and some Grav Cents. With Space Wolves for a Drop Pod or two. To minimise expenditure, you use an Allied Detachment for the Marines (Tiggy or disposable HQ, Scouts, Dev Cents). And the special Space Wolf one (I can't recall the name of. One with no manditory Troops) for a Rune Priest, two Wolf Scouts and a Drop Pod for the Cents. Looking back at your GK, what do you use from them? Obviously the stand out choices are NDK. So is it a NSF with a Libby, GKT and 2 NDK? How would you build around Drop Podding Grav Cents? Would you even take GK, or go a little deeper for 2 or even 3 DP Cent units? Apart from the NDK, what do we bring to the table? For TDA we could take WGT. We've got some cheap bodies through Scouts (not that the GK can provide cheap bodies any more). Space Marines could provide a Sotrmraven or two. Just the NDK then? casb1965
Which begs the question "why play Grey Knights?" I think I'll stick with Grey Knights and Inquisitors, not everything is governed by the law of min/max and multiple allies. Reclusiarch Darius
Our Librarians are still the cheapest TDA Mastery 3's you can get, not to mention the stave is handy. Purifiers are hilarious and print warp charges. Our Terminators are Troops by default. Dreadknights are the bomb. Aside from that, yeah there isn't much else that makes us a good Ally choice. casb1965
And with troops like that why bother with Allies :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296841-so-youre-taking-sm-and-sw-what-to-take-from-the-gk/#findComment-3811557 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
The company of the great wolf is the detachment your speaking of. On NSF remember that RoT command benefit only applies if your taking GKs as your primary detachment so that is a pretty big reason for their inclusion alone although I'm not convinced its really worth splashing into 3 colors of marine honestly. On the army concept its pretty wide open at this point, but if your taking centurions I would say draigo is pretty high on the list of reasons to include GKs as well. Podded cents suffer from too many counters, from opposing null deploys, lack of mobility after arrival, to counter assaults to simple mechanized armies and even interceptors like tau or IKs. Draigo solves most of these where tigurius doesn't. Now personally I feel the cent star is overrated. It can shine in certain matches but is no Ovesa star. I would keep it min sized.. 3 cents, grav/hb + omniscope. I assume this is competitive level, meaning you will face other stars, things with hit and run etc.. beastpacks being chief among stars IMO. Anyway I digress. By the basic shell you are speaking of I would look to GKs as psychic batteries via purifiers and pod them to coordinate with the cents who could teleport around to hit harder targets and take objectives while doing so. First turn deep striking terminators support this and skew the drop pod math heavily in your favor. Besides that I agree with your assessment and that of RDs. Captain Coolpants
Such a shame the game is allll about shooting now. If only the game had a balance of cc and shooting (God forbid) we'd be the auto include allies for weaker armies, instead of us looking for our allies as we're the weaker overall army :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296841-so-youre-taking-sm-and-sw-what-to-take-from-the-gk/#findComment-3811736 Share on other sites

That's not how it works... Any unit in a NSF detachment gets the Command Benefit. Regardless of if your NSF is your Primary Detachment or not. (If it worked the way you claim, then if you take two NSF detachments only one could be Primary and the other couldn't use Rites...) Anyway I digress. By the basic shell you are speaking of I would look to GKs as psychic batteries via purifiers and pod them to coordinate with the cents who could teleport around to hit harder targets and take objectives while doing so. I'd like Draigo more if it wasn't for the Culexes. /grumble Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296841-so-youre-taking-sm-and-sw-what-to-take-from-the-gk/#findComment-3811774 Share on other sites
