GrandMagnus
Hi, Im working on an army list for my AM regiment and I have a question about the "combined squads" rule. If 2 squads, each with 10 men, 1 flamer and a sergeant are combined, thoes that mean it becomes a 20 man squad with 2 flamers and 2 sergeants? Fluffwise my Regiment prefers assaulting with large mobs of infantry so I would like to know how to represent this with the minis. Thank you! CoffeeGrunt
Exactly this, yes. You can have blobs of up to 50 with 5 Sergeants and 5 special weapons if you really wanted. A favoured tactic is to give the Sergeants Power Axes to throw down some AP2 Wounds while hidden in the blob. Kierdale
And with five flamers you get 5D3 automatic hits if the unit is charged...no matter where the flamers are placed in the unit. WarriorFish
Remember the mechanic is simply joining the squads together; they're still bought as normal separate infantry squads when you build the list - you're just forming them into a single squad of doom for the game :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296896-combined-squads/#findComment-3812259 Share on other sites

CoffeeGrunt
Guessing he's a metal mini that went OOP. Shame, because he looks awesome. Tried EBay? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296896-combined-squads/#findComment-3813668 Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
I havent tried Ebay yet, but its a shame they didnt turn him to finecast, its a really nice sculpt. Kierdale
A sad loss. Though I fear that sword blade would be a swine to get/keep straight were it finecast. WarriorFish
It seems the metal Command Squad box is long gone, that's a shame as it had some nice sculpts in. Good job the replacement plastic one is great, I think it has some similar bits in so you could convert your own version? GrandMagnus
Yes, I suppose. I wanted that mini for my platoon command since I will be using the "trench-coat" bits from the C.CS with some bits from the Scions CS to make my general. Hmmm, guess I will have to see if I can find him on Ebay or some bits to make something similar. GrandMagnus
One final (probably :P) question: Im working out the fluff for my regiment and they are specialist heavy infantry. To represent this I want to sculpt this kind of armour on the guardsmen, but still counting as flak armour: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-czOeA6SinZ8/Un0Pjjr0SoI/AAAAAAAAAQk/cqEHQUkzeso/s1600/kasrkin+carapace+armour.jpg Whats your thought on this? Would it be too confusing for oponets (though I rarely play anyways, so its not that much of a concern) and how would I best be able to represent carapace armour, maybe with trench-coats or scions armour. Cap'm Heckus
I love mine. He's the only colonel i've used to date. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296896-combined-squads/#findComment-3814537 Share on other sites
Bro Castiel
Regarding the Officer model: I feel the same way. I came across mine from a mate but he had filed the imperial icons off. I will overcome this by painting freehand symbols on those spots so it might work out for the best. Keep hunting because the models are still out there just VERY rare now. Regarding the armour: Most of the opponents I have played don't mind (and some really appreciate) changes in the look of model representations as long as they can still easily distinguish between unit types in a complex multiple combat. The cloaks sound like a great way to distinguish the elite units from 'normal' guard units. Good luck! WarriorFish
Most probably wouldn't notice or care, the problem would be that you're using an actual armour to represent something else so there's a high risk of confusion for someone who notices. You could use Scions for carapace though as visually they're quite different to Cadian style carapace. GrandMagnus
Where can I get good power weapons for IG? Considering the combined squads I would like for fluffy resons to have one sergeant wielding a power sabre and a second sergeant wielding a chainsword (too bad they cant have lasguns...). WarriorFish
I think one of the FW upgrade packs might have a sword resembling a sabre somewhat, but I don't think they really exist. Maybe too small? You could chop a normal power sword down a little I suppose? GrandMagnus
Thank you, I just checked out FW and found this sword/sabre: http://www.bitzbox.co.uk/images/forgeworld_cadian_upgrade_sword_hand_large.jpg Its more or less what Im looking for, I know the Cadian Command Squad has one with a bionic arm. I was wondering if there where others. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296896-combined-squads/#findComment-3815117 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
The Cadian bionic arm is more of a normal sword but a bit of filing would change that. I think that might be the best course of action if you want sabres, especially more than one. GrandMagnus
Hmmm guess I would have to look into it. Im fine with swords too though, the Cadian one i really like.
