UltraCaptain
Iron Warriors always got the siege action. They have specified it recently as a job, which none of the other legions really wanted. Hence it got stuck on the Iron Warriors. As they could not say no to duty for the imperium, and because they accepted all missions given to them regardless of purpose, they always got the siege job. In reality Iron Warriors was a fairly tactical legion in terms of being very cold calculated in order to get the job done as efficient as possible (likely efficient means fast no matter the cost). So, they turned out to be the legion to do siege warfare. There is also little honour in sieges, and the iron warriors didn't really desire it. But often, the other legions stole the credit, so they got kinda upset on them (Dorn). This constant drag of siege warefare and little appresiation from his brothers, made the legion grow distant from all the others. In truth, they ended up very close to Angron and the world eaters, in terms of mindset. Which also happens to be the only battle brother legion in terms of game-alliances. For rules, Iron Hands do the iron warrior style better, probably a few other legions too. I can see modificantion to the Iron Warrior rules coming, they got the mindset correct, but fluff is not fully represented in their rules yet. Brofist
Iron Warriors are basically the Imperial Russia of 30k: -Regard artillery very highly and use more of it than other armies -Invest heavily in their artillery units to the point of having elite artillery divisions -Are stereotyped as "throwing men at a problems" -Raise forces in large numbers really quickly -Are really pragmatic -Described as strong in close combat With a culture and names taken from the Sasanian Empire of 224–651 ACE: -Stor-Bezashk -'Lystra' -Dodekatheon -Thorakites Led by Space Stalin: -Extremely paranoid, doesn't listen to anybody except himself -"Throws men at problems" -Has regular rage fits resulting in mass killings -Punishes his own troops with suicide missions Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296908-masters-of-artillery/#findComment-3812520 Share on other sites
Sanct
In HH book 3 the first in their fluffy 'observed strategic tendencies' is siege warfare Plus their unique RoW gives them an extra heavy support and near universal extra armour. This gives LOTS of bonus's to armour Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296908-masters-of-artillery/#findComment-3813580 Share on other sites
Nehekhare
Space Stalin I think Space Alexander the Great is far more appropriate for a conquerer who didn't trust his father from the planet Olympia with the cultural background of hellenized Diadoch Persia and whose terran recruits were taken from turkey/irak/iran... as for the topic: (Horus Heresy III, p. 112) [...] the Iron Warriors had the largest armored reserve and ordnance capacity of any of the Legions of the Great Crusade. Jolemai
Didn't Perturabo commission the Typhon? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296908-masters-of-artillery/#findComment-3818487 Share on other sites
Brofist
He sure did. Alexander's background is fitting of where the Iron Warriors came from, but Space Stalin is what comes to my head when I think about Perturabo punishing his grand companies that don't take enough casualties when assaulting planets etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/296908-masters-of-artillery/#findComment-3819039 Share on other sites
Nehekhare
na it's pretty sassanid persian too. people always identify anthing "evil" with stalin or hitler. human life didn't count for much before that either. In fact the classical greeks said about early persia when xerxes invaded that they are an army of a million tribes, yet all slaves.
