I am playing around with the idea of building some Scythes of the Emperor heroes and I was wondering what Mark of armour this chapter would be wearing given their founding.

If your army is going to be modelled post-Sotha then I'd give them a wild mix of marks and parts to represent them having to scavenge and cobble together what they can.

That what I'm doing when I do work on mine.

That is a good idea and very fluffy. Thanks

MK VII would be since after the Heresy and Scouring that was the suit mark (along with MK VI Corvus) that saw the most production. Though you could sprinkle in some MK IV maximus or MK V heresy in there for flavor since they would've still been pretty common. Hold off on MK VIII Errant since its "rare" even in 40k, though the only change for that Mark is the Chest Plate's Goget and Greaves.

Thank you for that!

I now have more questions! LOL. I know that the SOTE are only about two companies strong and that the veterans are referred to as the "Battle Company". I was wondering........ The SOTE are an Ultramarine successor and adhere to the codex where possible, but I have not seen white helmets to denote veteran status or  company markings on their pauldrons, is this an area open to expressing creative license or is the Chapter uniform in its colouring?

If you're going strict codex adherent then yes, white helms and such would be veteran marks.

But for variation's sake you could do something different to mark them as different. Ie: for my 30/40k Imperial Fists, I use Black Helmets / Stripes to denote Veterancy and a Black Helm with white stripe for a Vet Sergeant, etc. It also makes it that much more striking of an image because Yellow/Black contrasts more than Yellow/White, imo.

However, due to them already being Yellow/Black, how about using another color for veterancy? Try some things out you might find something suitable.

Just some Examples (they will be ordered Standard vet / Vet Sarge for reference) : Red / Black Stripe or White Stripe, Dark Purple / Yellow Stripe, Dark Blue / White Stripe, etc. Maybe go the route of Metallics to denote Veterancy: Silver for Standard Vets, Silver with Gold Stripe For Sarge and Gold Helm for Captains; Chapter Master having Gold Helm with Black Stripe.

Also due to the SotE's low numbers, company markings would be rather irrelevant don't you think? Since you're either in 1 or 2. To that end, you could just paint one kneepad the color of the company you want to represent even though its not "officially sanctioned". That would give some color variation.

yeah pretty much what i'm doing, a good mix of all marks to represent their scavenging nature :)

The Scythes are building themselves up to be a mainstream chapter, before you know it we may even get a supplement :)

Don't worry if you don't get a supplement, be safe in the knowledge that the Ultramarines 1st Company is based on your acumen and valour.

Hi Im also a collector/painter of the "Emperor's Scythes", I agree with alot of whats already been said and yes they have two companys, 1st Battle Company ( numbers about 130 ) and Scouts ( around 300 ) at least thats how I see it, as for body armour I am keeping it relatively new Mk wise as they are a new all be it on the brink chapter, having said that their scavenging for wargear would give options for different Mk armour helmets ect, I've used some on a Tac sarg and Chaplain so far, also a liberal use of IronHands  bionic legs arms and so on I think look in keeping, I can imagine alot of transplants after the retreat of "Giants Coffin".

All in all an awesome chapter.

I hope your right Cornelias, a BL Scythes of the Emperor Book would be great, any more news on that?

just the cover art that is finished, awaiting more news impatiently heh

"The Emperor’s Scythes have yet to appear in many Black Library stories, but that will be remedied soon. In the meantime, if you want some insight into some of the origins of this mysterious chapter, you may find some clues in the recent Horus Heresy novel The Unremembered Empire.

If you’re a fan of awesome Black Library artwork, be sure to check back tomorrow when we’re releasing something a bit special."

That’s all for today,
Thanks for reading.
