"I shall make a note for my Lord. Once the rebellion is dealt with and the crusade is resumed, we are to delay our advances and make sure to not progress any faster than the average, lest we be perceived as arrogant."

"On second tought, perhaps I should also suggest that we reduce our forces so that we command no more than anyone else."

*The Pavoni Adept Exemptus sighed at the Ultramarine's misunderstanding.*

It is not the speed of which your crusade was conducted that is perceived as arrogant, it's taking something decided by pure chance, and upholding it like it was a choice. Glory assigned to you by pure luck of being at the right place at the right time is not something you should put up as your mightiest of victories. Also, do you really think that the crusades will resume after this debacle? The Imperium of Man is changed forever, however the outcome of this war.

...though your second idea might possibly be a good one, you should talk to Lord Guilliman about putting it in the book we know he is working on.

"I... must confess I am lost as to what you might be refering to. I do not recall my Lord or my brothers putting forward their Macraggan origin as an argument. The domain of my Lord is a matter entirely separate from considerations regarding his Emperor's Legiones Astartes. It is usually with regard to the conducting of the Crusade and military doctrine where the Legions find disagreement."

http://imageshack.com/a/img912/7973/tu7KbR.jpg

That argument was not made by you, but by the son of The Lion. I was not comparing the actual situation, just the perceived feeling of your claimed superiority.

*Going through the lower counts of the Enumerations to remain focused, the Thousand Son addresses the room.*

But that aside, I see that most legions now have reinstated their librarius despite the Edict of Nikaea. The hypocracy regarding the XVth legion's near destruction continues in a fascinating way, where are the Vlka Fenryka assaults? Where are the destruction of homeworlds? Will Prospero go down in the annals of history as the only scoured planet of the Nikaea atrocity?

*The Iron Hand cleared his throat, the following noise echoing through the chamber and stopping the childish squabbling between cousins present...*

My cousin and honourable child of Lord Magnus, whilst he was a one-wyed lord and had MANY failings, he was surprisingly wise at the end, he did not wish his children and kinsmen slain by their betters - instead if his plan had worked Lord Russ was to accept your surrender and nought mild sanction would have happened - instead your kin Ahriman, greatest among you decided he would disobey your King's choice and fight back... Had you listened to reason, to the evidence in front of you then I would embrace you as a brother - instead I hope to see you upon the battlefield so I can end your pain with my bolter and grant you the embrace of a glorious death! Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense.

The Templar gave a solemn nod of respect to the Ultramarine before addressing him :

"Your Father, wise as he may be, is attempting to codify and generalize our methods of war and to force them upon us not of Ultramarine stock. Whilst I am not blind to the potential benefits it may impart, it would limit us more than anything. Something I am not willing to witness happen to my Legion"

(you'll have to forgive me for this next bit since beyond us knowing that the IF Librarius is imprisoned on the Phalanx(???) it hasn't been really expanded upon if they were freed at the siege or at any point before. At least, to my knowledge.)

Then, Turning to the Son of Magnus.

"We of the VIIth still abide by the Emperors edict for his word is Law. You will find no hypocrisy from us, Son of the Cyclops. And, the Iron Hand has it right. Were it not for Ahriman, you and yours would have still been counted among us as allies. Shame, for the Thousand Sons would have proven instrumental in bringing down the abominations that now have free reign among the Bearers of the Word."

He says, looking contemptuously at the Chaplain and the Daemonhost.

Only a fool would choose to not fight back as the Vlka Fenryka came with the peace of an orbital bombardment. Prospero was only ever meant to be a killing blow. The Wolves would have had it no other way and who could truly blame the Sorcerers of the XVth for fighting for their lives? A hypocrite and a fool, that is who.

So do not patronize them and tell them a lack of resistance would have saved them blood. All that would have done is ensure they were dying on their knees, bowed in submission. It is only right they should have a cause to stand for and believe in. It made us of the XVII strong. We endured where others failed. And even when the Emperor forced us into the ground, it was our faith in our cause and our beliefs that allowed us to rise up again. The XVth tried to save the Imperium from the oncoming war. And yet all of you who claim to be its defenders insult them and tell them that should have died at the hands of murderers no more honorable than the VIII Legion.

So I say they were noble and just to defend their homes, their philosophies and their lives! It was the Wolves who attacked first, and without warning! The so-called noble savages. They are only dishonorable brutes. At the least the XIIth and the VIIIth let their enemies know they are coming, shouting their intent into the void. But the VIth? No, they would rather slither in the darkness like snakes, waiting only when one wasn't looking to strike.

Begone you vile hypocrites! How dare you speak of honor while supporting those who have none! How dare you speak of reason to those who have more than you!

The obsidian machine began to shudder, a sound similar to a Sicaran battle tank engine trying to start. He placed a clawed gauntlet at the table to steady himself. Only his brothers from the Tenth immediately knew that he was laughing. Finally gaining composure, the Iron Hand pointed a claw at the flesh puppet and the blasphemer.

"Oh, that's rich. Brothers, they think they think they are the next step in human evolution! Apparently, allowing oneself to be the host of a parasite is a step above!"

At a command that no one saw or heard, three servo skulls drifted from behind the iron hand and towards the word bearers. Floating outside of striking distance, the skulls began scanning the possessed astartes. As the skulls finished scanning, the Iron Hand let out another laugh.

"Even now, your 'union' with the warp predator is causing a drain on your bioenergy, also known as the soul. There's no use in deluding yourself, puppet, surely you have noticed the symptoms. You are slowly losing control of your body. Your mind screams as its tethers to the physical realm are gnawed upon. Soon the parasite will have completely subjugated you, under the false pretense of partnership."

The tenth legionaire's emerald eyes fell upon the blasphemer. "A lion does not stop from eating its prey because it fell on its knees in supplication. How absurdly naive of you to think otherwise. For all this talk of striking deals with so called gods in order to save yourselves from infinite destruction, all you have accomplished is placing humanity on a silver platter for these warp creatures to feast upon."

"As for you cousin." The obsidian machine turned to address the knight, the cyber familiars now orbiting their master like planets around a collapsed star.

"I hold you to a higher standard than the rest of our cousins because of your past deeds as the First. Your legion wages war as efficiently and pragmatically as possible. Your legion also has a history of refusing to give ground to the enemy. These are traits that all sons of the Gorgon can admire. However your legion's reaction time to recent events, combined with your father not divulging pertinent information at critical times, has eroded the trust and patience of all of your loyalist cousins. And most disturbingly..."

At another silent command, one of the orbiting skulls drifted in front of the tenth legionaire. It's eyes glowed as it began to display holographic information along with an image of Caliban.

"There are some... unsettling reports from the mechanicus supply lines to Caliban. Tell us cousin, what news do you have of your home world?"

"I can assure you that no one will be forced to adopt doctrines against his will. Though it is disappointing to see some of my brothers value tradition over merit. However, I am confident that your own father, more than any other of his brothers, will recognize the value in the tested and refined doctrines of my Lord."

Another Iron Hand enters the room. Clad in a suit of arfificer armour more than a match for any of the finest produced by mars, his servo harness folding back in passivity. He puts is bionic hand on the shoulder of his brother, forstalling his reply.

"First among the stars aye, also first to fall it seems. Prototypes are inevitably the most flawed. What news have we of Ancient Caliban? What transpires upon the verdant home of the first legion? Some whisper of dark magics and foul rituals that carry the stench of Heresy within the Rock. Pride is the first sign of the fall brother."

The Iron Father shifts his gaze to the Word Bearer, his blue lenses betraying no emotion. He releases his brother's shoulder and slowly raises his bionic, rotating it back and forth with the whir of servos.

This is sacrifice, son of Lorgar. Every legionnaire of the Tenth willingly gives up his hand in tribute to our noble Primarch. You know nothing of Sacrifice. You know nothing of Duty. You know nothing of Honour. You cloak yourselves in claims that are nothing more than self-serving means to an end. Personal gain. You are the greed that take everything from it's victims, and gives nothing back - to beseach what you believe is a greater power, a "godly" power. The weak mind resorts to gods and daemons to explain what it cannot phatom. The weak mind needs to be suplicant to steel it's soul against the unknown, against fear... They are nothing but debased Xenos lifeforms living in the Empyrian brother. They use you and your legion like puppets because you fear to live in a universe where there are no gods, where secular truth illuminates all.

That is why your legion will never be truly be our equals, because you know fear. That is why you turned from the Emperor, because you fear. Know this Word Bearer, regardless of the horrors you unleash from the Empyrean, the boons they grant you, the treachery you acheive, we will stand against the dark and you will suffer our wrath. Because to be an Astartes, is to know no fear.

Hahahahaha! Apparently the X Legion has never bothered to augment their hearing. Where did I ever say that I possessed honor or reason? Such things cannot exist in one such as I. No, the only thing I have is my faith and that faith has carried my beyond death, as it has many of my brethren.

And as for fear, you would be a Legion to talk. For you fear death. That is why you mutilate yourselves. It isn't out of love for your father, it is out of fear that you will die just like him, fear that you will be weak, just like he was.

(amusingly I believe the current count for legions are as follows: 2 WBs, 1 SoH, 1 Sallie, 4 IHs, 1 RG, 1 Ultra, 1 IF, 1-2 IWs, 2 SWs, 1 AL and 1 1kSon - so the IHs are in ascendance numbers wise).

(I think its three Word Bearers because there was a mention of a Chaplain and a Daemonhost before my first post and I have not described myself as either, just a Word Bearer)

Mine was supposed to be a reply to Wade's, (as it mentions the word bearer) but for some reason I fail to post yesterday >.>

The iron father turns his gaze towards the Night Lord, somewhat confused.

"Speaking of the hearing impaired, our ever paranoid brother seems to outdo us. He even takes comments directed at others to heart. The Night Haunter would be proud, to be sure. Like a spoiled child starving for attention, the VIIIth legion always beleive themselves targeted, victims. Not so suprising that they feel the need to outdo themselves in debased behavior that brings shame to us all."

The Cataphractii-clad Iron Hand's deep-seated helmet shook slowly from side to side, as if weary of hearing this same old argument trotted out again.

"We are Space Marines.  We do not fear, much less fear death.  We augment ourselves because we know that only by aspiring to the machine can we achieve maximum efficiency in our duties -- that of dealing death to others.  This mechanization is meant to stave off death, true, but not out of fear of dying.  Rather, we seek only to ensure that each of us survives the crucible of combat long enough to eradicate the enemies of the Imperium.  After all, it's hard to kill someone when you're dead."

Call yourself what you will heathen! You are midnight clad and bear their marks upon your armour. (FORUM SIGNATURES NEVER LIE!)

Two Blood Angels Brother, yet those late to this debate seem to forget those that came before, I stand with the brash bullheadedness of my Xth Legion cousins. Their Primarchs actions at Istvaan V would have been the actions of my own Father would we have been there, but alas, we felt the keen blade of a much different knife.

There are too few of us now still loyal to the Emperor that we cannot afford resentment towards one another, divided we fall.

Put aside our petty grievances and stand united brothers.

It seems that the Word Bearers have learnt nothing of the lessons imparted by the Emperor and delivered by the hand of Guilliman. Your admonishment was not that your rate of compliance was too slow, but that your Primarch defied the principles of Imperial Truth. The Warp is dangerous and the Emperor hid its secrets from us with good reason, yet in all your vainglory you turned to the very thing that is anathema to all life in our galaxy, all for the sake of hurt pride. None of you are fit to hold the title of Legionary and my Legion will not rest until every traitor in the cosmos lies dead at our feet.

Despite the fact that the "Bearers of the Word" are sanctimonious little liars, whispering in the ears of other legions, it would seem their "faith" in the warp is well placed. Does not the emperor strive to establish himself as a god? Such hypocrisy, tsk tsk. If it was from one of my own brothers, that would be routine, but from the "master of mankind"? Truly we were all correct in shedding such false allegiances. The war master and his ilk are little better, but we receive free reign to....entertain ourselves. Unfortunately you crossdressing mongrels of the first legion keep getting in the way!

"The Emperor? Seek to establish HIMSELF as a God? Clearly the failed attempt at a Religion Propagated by the Word Bearers themselves has confused you, cousin. For it was He that instituted the Imperial Truth; where Logic, Reason and Science would trump Fear, Superstition and Ignorance!"

"The only reason your ilk were tolerated, Night Lord (thats what you're representing..right?) was because you brought Humanity back into the Fold of The Imperium better than the Word Bearers could before their rightful censure at the Hands of the Emperor and the Ultramarines. Were it not for that fact and your timely betrayal, you and yours would have been put down like the murderous fools you all are. Much like what your very own Primarch did to his and your Homeworld."
