1) I'll grant you that cousin the Thousand Sons did not abandon their beliefs, now they are only enslaved by it.

2) And 10,000 years going strong, you will never understand the loss of a Primarch changed one, only the abandonment of one.

And what better is their to be enslaved to? A corpse on a throne who's body has been dead for 10,000 years and his mind only a score less? Sentient Warpstorms who see humanity and the galaxy as less than chafe? We are enslaved to humanity. We have bleed and sacrificed everything for 10,000 years to break the chains of the false Imperium of Ignorance on a race destined for greatness, a race destined to become the ultimate form of sentient: beings who are at harmony with the warp yet not slaves to it. The Thousand Sons have bled for 10,000 years to bring about our true Destiny as humans, and we would do it 100,000 years more if we must.

You speak of the loss of a Primarch like it is the greatest loss possible but you are wrong little Blood Angel, you have so much left to lose. Has your Homeworld ever been burned to the ground by brain-dead barbarians? Have you ever felt the pain of having to choose between your entire legion slowly dying to Tzeentch's abomination or sacrificing a portion of your brother's souls? Have you ever been betrayed by the ones whom you served faithfully? We have. And we have endured.

To quote the Primarch of the 1st - "Loyalty, is its own reward." you spat upon your oaths to the Emperor when you continued to practise the abomination of sorcery regardless of the Emperors edict.

.... and before you call me a hypocrite, (possible accusation of my legion breaking the edict on Signus) I wouldnt know.... I was consumed by Rage ;)

Yes, we did disobey the Emperor's Edict. But our oaths were never to the Emperor, they were to humanity. It became clear to us soon after the Fall of Prospero that The Emperor's continued dictatorship over the human race was not good for Humanity and every day the Imperium remains in control of even a single backwater planet is a day where we are proven correct in our observation. And your entire Legion may not be entirely to blame, but neither is ours. The vast majority of the Legion had no idea of Magnus' plan.

The Edict itself was a falsehood. It's result was the sum of the efforts of misguided shortsighted fools, warpbeings and cowards! The Emperor was easily fooled by a charade and the sentence was a crippling knife in the back to one of the most loyal legions...the Wolves attack was only the final drop in a well-filled goblet of wine. A being of massive psychic abilities Himself, had He taken it upon himself to guide and teach, instead of ban and exile, the outcome of the heresy would be quite different...

Hypocrasy, thy name is The Emperor!

In the end, we of the XXth never fully believed in the Emperor's utopian future. It was a sandcastle built for the blind masses to gaze upon, while in the shadowy bowels of His terran palace He had other plans...for Himself, for humanity, for the galaxy...

The hypocrisy of quoting our 'loyal' Lord of the 1st is amusing to this battle-worn ensemble gathered here... We have a traitor trying to prove he is LESS of a traitor than the sons of the mutant 'Angel' and the oh so honest Lion, both of whom hide secrets from their own sons let alone the warriors they fight alongside... Do we sons of The Gorgon hide our connection to the Great Omnissiah? NO! For it is something to be gloried, do the Wolves hide their brutal honesty NAY! For they know their actions, whilst callous to some are on HIS orders alone. There is something for the other, more wayward Brothers and Sons to learn here.
Failure? ha i say it once and i'll say it again. a whole novel you forgot about Sevatar and his Atramentar on your flagship! dangerous practice, so many delicious secrets you dont share with fellow legions, all of you false emperor loving dogs with your hidden ways shall make a lovely skinpatchwork for my walls

Orders which came from the Emperor's Warmaster and which were validated by the Emperor's praetorian, Constantin Valdor.

While the flaws of Russ and his savages are many and varied, in this particular instance, they seem to be more sinned against than sinning.

No, the blame for Prospero can be laid squarely upon the gilded dullard who chose a Primarch less in control of himself than Angron and a Legion which never missed a chance to proclaim itself his executioners to "bring Magnus back alive".

What did He think was going to happen?

I dare say Brother Wade - the wolves have many flaws however they have not declared themselves executioners... merely stated that they're good at killing and much like all astartes are rather well known for it.

Either way my cousins of Prospero should have yielded - if they had followed the example of their lord Magnus they would have lived and their knowledge, along with their cities of glass would be standing today as a shining example of the strength in humility. :P

THEORETICAL

The bickering between brothers stems from a desire to prove superiority.

PRACTICAL

A desire to prove superiority demonstrates a lack of security of ones own legion among the participants.

Courage and Honour

Oh yeah?

Well the Lion is Bobby G's Spiritual Liege!!! So stick that in your codex and write it!

A reminder is in order.

Right off the bat, I've already had to hide a post. Treading on thin ice, and it hasn't even left the first page.

So, if this thread is going to survive much longer, we need to lay down ground rules.

1. Act 'in character', as if you are a Legionnaire representing your Legion in the 31st millennium. In other words, the 'yo momma' jokes die here. Matter of fact, any 21st century-esqe jokes die here.

2. 'Keep it civil' is an understatement.

3. If you're going to participate in this thread, then remember it's all in good fun. Flex your fluff gland a little, nay, your writing skills, and write as if you're an actual character defending the honour of your Legion, or like two scholars arguing. Zero personal attacks.

For Example, like Sevetar and Corswain speaking to each other in 'Savage Weapons'.

4. This is supposed to be fun, amusing, and playful. If you're developing a temper, WALK. AWAY. You post angry, you post uncivil.

5. Anything outside of the Board rules, or the rules I have outlined here will be met with a sustained and repeated Phosphex bombardment, until all is ash, and the screaming stops. I'm not even close to kidding. Warning will be doled out, and it will not be pleasant.

So, let's try this again. Choose your Legion, pretend you are an actual Legionnaire in-universe, write like an author and not a blogger, and remain polite and civil.

Ignore this at your peril. The Sigilite has spoken.

Theoretical:

By attempting to coerce his brothers to adopt his own methods of warfare, Guilliman and his sons practiced precisely the sort of chest thumping NO l AM BETTER THAN YOU braggadacio they seek to sneer at in the current discussion.

Practical:

You didn't look so superior at Armatura and Nuceria.

Blood for the Blood God.

That's the best retort you can come up with?

When a student learns at the feet of his master -- as we all have done during our time as neophytes in our Legions, before we donned our battleplate -- does the master teach to prove his superiority?  No, he is merely passing on his knowledge and wisdom to one less well-educated than he.  And that is what we of the Iron Tenth are attempting to do here.  We are not beating our chests in a vain attempt to show that we are superior or to cover some hidden weakness of confidence; we are merely trying to instruct our lessers in our superior ways of warfare.

Indeed.

Should I ever require instruction in how to fail my father and let him die, l will be certain to seek out a member of the Tenth to share his experience in that area.

Even Curze's brood of vipers drove the Lord of the First back from their wounded father. It would seem that the slums of Nostromo breed hardier sorts than the forges of Medusa.

Curze's brood were not outnumbered ten to one.  Ferrus would still live, with Fulgrim's head in a box displayed forever in the Anvilarium, if only our. . . brothers. . . of the XVIIIth and XIXth had possessed stouter hearts and stronger sword arms.

Ha!

Always, the blame lies with another. With the ravens, or the dragons, or with the very nature of flesh itself. Anything, except for acknowledging your failure and changing your course.

Listen to me, scion of the Gorgon. A machine can only be what it is. It cannot grow, or evolve, or ever be wiser today than it was the day before.

That is the flawed ideal your bloodline seeks to emulate. That is why you fail, and that is why you die.
