Rending shoot attacks on vehicles not clear

Hello Brothers, I am not sure I understood the Rending special rule on vehicles. The D3 dice is rolled and the result is added to the strength of the weapon, right ? So with a 6 I add up to the needed value for a pen ?

 

If an example like a missile launcher hitting frontal plate of a LR:  hits, S8 plate 14 only a 6 is useful but each is a sure pen afterward ?

 

In this case sounds like an "all or nothing" to me :D

When you rend against vehicle armor you roll an additional D3. So an Assault Cannon rends against a LR, that gets you to 12(S6+dice roll of 6) then you roll an additional D3 needing a 2 or a 3 on that to deal damage. In some case's like if the armor is only AV12 it is an all or nothing getting you a pen or nothing.

 

 

I'm not aware of any ML's that have rending though, where does that come from?

Ah, then yes in your example rending a LR would auto pen it
