Shadrach03
So I was reading some of stronghold assault and was wondering about using a void shield generator to protect dreadknights in the opening turns while they lay down firepower before assaulting. Everon
Its nice for one penetrating hit a turn. Going against em before on other buildings their annoying but at av 12 easy to crack. Whats the value on em anyways? Never went against a stand alone version. Shadrach03
50pts I think and 25 for an extra layer up to 3. Just a thought trying to find alternatives to find some hidden potential in our book. Everon
Oh thats nice. Yeah 3 layers eats 3 potential ap1/2 shots. Tgat might be more worth it. 6" bubble or 12? Either way could be a good catch Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297065-void-shield-generator/#findComment-3815231 Share on other sites

Reclusiarch Darius
Void Shield Generator isn't a bad idea actually. It'll also mean they can't easily chip away your wounds with massed fire Turn 1 on your infantry. Also makes Riptides, Heldrakes, Oblits, battle cannon etc a lot less dangerous. Shadrach03
For 1120 points you could bring 2 vsg with 3 layers each and 4 dreadknights, 4 psycannons 2 incinerators 2 psilencers swords teleporters, that could be under cover up to 12 inches into midfield while in the 6 layers of av 12 armor. Then you enemy would have to move out of the way to try to avoid your guns or come to you to engage inside the shielded zone. Or split the vsg up and give each side of the board 2 dreadknights under cover to push forward from. This could also save that shunt move for later in the game for objective grabs or to threaten the other side of the board if one side runs out of squishy bits to punch into dust. Brom MKIV
It's an interesting idea since the pts cost is in the ballpark of reserve manipulation for 3 shields. Usually I'd dismiss the idea in a short range combat army but shunt changes things. I've faced 9 shield gunlines pretty often and I can tell you it can be a pain to deal with for anyone even tau. They're basically an av12 army transport with iwnd. You could even consider an allied firebase to better abuse the shields. Shadrach03
Would be interested to see how it goes if anyone can try it that plays a lot of games. Hidicul
Is there even a model for the Void Shield? If so whats it come in? I'm thinking of adding a Void Shield to help protect whatever is sitting on my comms relay since the 4+ cover save is easily negated by the Tau and Guard I play so much against. Brom MKIV
Void shield generators were a limited release model and much larger than you'd probably expect. You can actually place a squad on the top. I would suggest scratch building them. VSG defend against DS very easily although I'd assume harder for GKs due to low model count. I was having problems even placing swooping hawks most times I faced em. Everon
I have it on good autgority that more void shields are coming. Wont be limited but they wont be as nice as the limiteds either. Should be coming after DE which is on going now. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297065-void-shield-generator/#findComment-3815867 Share on other sites

Brom MKIV
I never picked one up, too static for my tastes but the dimensions are: 9.5" tall with battlements at 2.5" and 6". To create your own it should be roughly 4" x 3" and 6.5" tall. Brom MKIV
Your welcome. Also you will want to practice your deployment strategy. These things have quite a few nuances that aren't apparent until you use/face them. And as usual there are some pretty big holes in the rules for those invisible bubbles.. Hidicul
So if you place the void shield behind an Agies defence line, would it get the cover save? I'm sure my normal opponents would be asking me that when they start shooting at it. IndigoJack
Cover works exactly as normal. The generator itself would not get the cover save, as it is too big but models behind the line would still get their 4+ cover as normal. Shadrach03
What if you stick a Dark Angel libby by the tower with a power field generator, would that confer a 4+ invul to your projected void shields? Hidicul
I don't have any books with me, can we take an allied detachment with NSF.or does it have to be a CAD? Wouldn't mind allying in some raven wing with a PFG for the void shields Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297065-void-shield-generator/#findComment-3816383 Share on other sites
IndigoJack
What if you stick a Dark Angel libby by the tower with a power field generator, would that confer a 4+ invul to your projected void shields? Only to the models that are within 3" of the libby. I think you guys are thinking of the shield wrong. Try thinking of it more in terms units affected. Every unit within 12" of the generator has a void shield until it fails. I don't have any books with me, can we take an allied detachment with NSF.or does it have to be a CAD? Wouldn't mind allying in some raven wing with a PFG for the void shields The NSF and CAD are both detachments, just like the allied detachment. There is no limit to the number of detachments you can have. The only restrictions on detachments, is that your allied detachment(s) cannot be the same faction as your primary faction, and your warlord cannot be chosen from your allied detachment (and therefore, cannot be your primary detachment).
