void shield generator

Void Shield Generator isn't a bad idea actually. It'll also mean they can't easily chip away your wounds with massed fire Turn 1 on your infantry. Also makes Riptides, Heldrakes, Oblits, battle cannon etc a lot less dangerous.

For 1120 points you could bring 2 vsg with 3 layers each and 4 dreadknights, 4 psycannons 2 incinerators 2 psilencers swords teleporters, that could be under cover up to 12 inches into midfield while in the 6 layers of av 12 armor.  Then you enemy would have to move out of the way to try to avoid your guns or come to you to engage inside the shielded zone.

Or split the vsg up and give each side of the board 2 dreadknights under cover to push forward from.

This could also save that shunt move for later in the game for objective grabs or to threaten the other side of the board if one side runs out of squishy bits to punch into dust.

It's an interesting idea since the pts cost is in the ballpark of reserve manipulation for 3 shields.  Usually I'd dismiss the idea in a short range combat army but shunt changes things.

I've faced 9 shield gunlines pretty often and I can tell you  it can be a pain to deal with for anyone even tau. They're basically an av12 army transport with iwnd.  You could even consider an allied firebase to better abuse the shields.

Void shield generators were a limited release model and much larger than you'd probably expect. You can actually place a squad on the top. I would suggest scratch building them.

VSG defend against DS very easily although I'd assume harder for GKs due to low model count. I was having problems even placing swooping hawks most times I faced em.

What if you stick a Dark Angel libby by the tower with a power field generator, would that confer a 4+ invul to your projected void shields?

Only to the models that are within 3" of the libby. I think you guys are thinking of the shield wrong. Try thinking of it more in terms units affected. Every unit within 12" of the generator has a void shield until it fails.

I don't have any books with me, can we take an allied detachment with NSF.or does it have to be a CAD? Wouldn't mind allying in some raven wing with a PFG for the void shields

The NSF and CAD are both detachments, just like the allied detachment. There is no limit to the number of detachments you can have. The only restrictions on detachments, is that your allied detachment(s) cannot be the same faction as your primary faction, and your warlord cannot be chosen from your allied detachment (and therefore, cannot be your primary detachment).
