Jochteas
Hey I was just wondering, I'm looking at the Blizzard Shield as maybe a possible equipment for my TWL. Obviously it would not be a real Blizzard shield in game terms, but looks wise I think they are pretty sweet and was considering it to count as suitable Storm Shield for my model. But I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. My one hesitation is it might be 'too big'. Now my TWL is going to be on a mount so that might mitigate it somewhat, and this is the world of WH40K, oversized weapons are par for the course, but still I ask if anyone has any comments or suggestions. wulfgar hammerfist
I think it's a personal choice really. Do you like the way it looks? Have you tried sizing it using blu-tac to see if it looks as cool in reality? Personally, I think the shield is too big for a non-Dread but, again, it's a personal choice. Jochteas
Well that's the thing, I haven't actually got one in person to compare. I'm thinking of just buying one ( blizz shield) and seeing for myself, thought I'm loath to spend 5+ dollars 'just to see' Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297168-blizzard-shield-on-a-non-dread-model/#findComment-3816962 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
I have used a spare one on Arjac's Anvil Shield. My Arjac model is ever so slightly bigger than a regular TDA.As for TWC, I think the regular ones are too small to carry that thing. If you use bigger alternative models, it might work.Just as a reference: d = 3cm Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297168-blizzard-shield-on-a-non-dread-model/#findComment-3816990 Share on other sites
Creamywynch
It is massive. I am using one on a contemptor dreadnought and it is large for that model. I think it will be too big for a twl. Frater Cornelius
I beg to differ. Jochteas
Wow, that actually looks really great Immersturm, I mean its big, but not impossibly big. I was thinking of getting the Harald Deathwolf mode and replace his shield (which for some reason I think looks terrible compared to regular shields) with this, my hope is that since the focus of the model is still on the inside, it ~might~ not be to big, and if it is, since its not the focus it could be regularly overlooked. Dantay VI
 I didnt use a blizzard shield, but this is a 2 pence coin (UK) which is about 26mm. And it looks okay on Harald, but I am considering making a smaller shield for everyone, maybe even Harald too.  The reason being is that: Unless you back mount it The big shields can look really bad And from a practical perspective make fighting hard.. So sometimes something even 3-4mm can look better. So I will be redoing all my shields to a smaller size. Its is a situational, and a preference thing I guess.  Oh, check the Space Wolves Lords thread, there is a picture of a model with the blizzard shield there!    Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297168-blizzard-shield-on-a-non-dread-model/#findComment-3817054 Share on other sites
Jochteas
Hmmm, is the blizzard shield 26 mm (or close?) because honestly I get what you're saying about the shield being to big on most models, and how you mounted it on Harald is approximately how I was envisioning mounting it on mine, and honestly your Harald looks amazing (in my opinion) with that shield. Well I mean he looks good anyways but I love that big shield with that pose on the warlord. But if the blizzard shield is even bigger it might be a touch to big. Using coinage for a shield is not something I'd imagine, but I gotta ask. How did you get such nice knot work on your shield, I think it looks pretty riveting! Dantay VI
I scour the interwebz for design ideas and store tham away in a gallery here for easy reference. I also set up a gallery for vehicle design ideas too. If its simple, I freehand at the size I want it, if it's complex then draw out a bigger version and paint it on to paper, scan and print to the size you require. Most of my design ideas came from the internet and got sketched out as the colours do not match what I am looking for, plus painting over a colour print is an absolute pain. Its often easier just to recreate it yourself and 80% of the time I do it at say 50mm-75mm (200-300%) and then shrink it down. I could just copy, size, print on all of them.. But then it becomes a total mish-mash of colours and patetrns with no cohesion to them at all, so I put in a bit of extra time, and paint to get the aesthetic I want. This was freehand and at this scale This was blown up bigger and painted Sometimes the simplest iddas are the best eh? Sorry if this spoils the aura of mystery around my shields and stuff..... Good news is that the dragons etc on my fire raptor are 100% freehand & I am really proud of it. Dantay VI
Yup, wife wants my attention and I want her attention ... wee boy wants my attention... Its all good! Offshore life is good if you can handle being away from the family, because of all the free time you have to edvote to them when you return... Plus it's kinda cool when the other kids talk about their parents car or bike in line at pre-school and Ben (my son) in a deadly derious matter-of-fact voice turns to the kids and says, "hats nice... my daddy takes his helicopter to work". Anyway back on topic. I think the blizzard shield is maybe edging towards too big, cut out a 30mm circle and tack it to the side of your model. If you are not sure, then you have a great bit to add to the box...but if you like it and you think it can work, then go for it... Rule of cool and all that jazz Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297168-blizzard-shield-on-a-non-dread-model/#findComment-3817160 Share on other sites

That rocks! My daughter can claim that I am a real-life rocket scientist, but I just drive a regular car or minivan... And using coins is a brilliant idea! Now I just have to see how our pathetic US currency options scale. Our money is so freaking boring!
