Mixed Tactics Regiment Viable at 1850?

Hey everybody, I've got a vision for a regiment that is modeled after modern day combined arms regiments like an MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) This would mean the force would have to include a strong core of basic infantry, with main battle tank support, artillery support, and air support.

I know that the favored approach to Imperial Guard/Astra for the past few editions has been to take lots of one or few things; ie Vendetta leafblowers in 5th, or the Chimera-rush, or recently full Leman Russ companies, or massed infantry supporting an Adamantine Lance of Knights. I'm wondering if you all think it can be viable and competitive to take a combined arms approach, solely within the Astra Militarum book.

Here's what I'm thinking:

CCS, Master of Ordinance, Officer of the Fleet, Medic, Vox

Primaris Psyker

Commissar

Knight Commander Pask

-Vanquisher, Multi-Meltas, Lascannon, Camo-Netting, Smoke Launcher

-Executioner, Plasma-Cannons, Heavy Bolter, Camo-Netting, Smoke Launcher

Platoon Command Squad, 4x Flamers

3x Infantry Squad w/ Vox and Flamer

Infantry Squad

Conscript Squad

Veteran Squad, 3x Melta-Gun, Krak Grenades

Valkyrie, Lascannon

Vendetta

Devil Dog

Wyvern

Wyvern

Punisher, Heavy Bolters, Heavy Bolter

Commissar attaches to Conscripts, Platoon Command Rides the Vendetta, Veterans ride the Valkyrie.

Could this stand up today? Or is it not focused enough? I like the idea of using something that's a bit...standardized, or even basic, where the tactics and strategy are what win the day rather than a gimmick. Is that still possible, or will a mixed bag Astra army just get whooped at this level?

it's a very balanced list! my only convern is that you lack mobile scoring troops which you will need in the maelstrom missions!

dropping the devildog in favour for 2 chimeras could solve that problem already since you could mount those veterans in the chimera, and 1 infantry squad in the valkyrie

Guard are more than capable of forming balanced lists to represent all sorts of armies - don't believe all you read on the internet ;) As hendrik said this looks like a nice list but a bit more mobility would be nice. Chimera mounted Veterans would reflect the Marine theme well I reckon as well as help fill the mobility gap.

The key with balanced lists against the specialised is to exploit their weaknesses - by being more balanced you should be able to find something you're better at. Work your other elements to support this and you'll usually have a good strategy for victory. That's why a good balanced list built to work as a whole is always the more reliable build when you don't know what you'll be up against :)
