We just got kinda forgotten on that metric which is a bummer. BUT, the best part of being this low, is that there's only really room to go up! So I am more hopeful for the future. (as in, shins, torso fronts) as that alone would help elevate the existing intercessors. People have done it for the terminators. Beside him, we got fights first on the blade guard via judiciar and speed of the primarch on the aggressor captain. BA captain has of course rage fueled warrior. I already run this army once before. Although I rearranged some units. I'll run it as LAG. He ran the new detachment, which IMHO is really strong. +1 to hit and to wound if no other Custodes units are within 6". Looking at the low unit count in an typical Custodes army this isn't to hard to pull off. He had 2 big blobs of Custodes with blade champions, 3 alarus with captain, trajan valoris, land raider, 3 jetbikes with captain and a ?caladus? (shooty hover tank). He went first and managed to kill my redeemer straight away. My units mostly underperformed and I got wiped in turn 5 with also a massive lead in points on his side. I felt the lack of mobility without any jump troops or deepstrike like I was being dictated to play on his rules and keep to react instead of taking the initiative. Also Custodes seem to become my personal nemesis. Their durability combined with all their tricks plus humongous damage output feels like there is no lever to pull. Outmanouvering also feels silly, as this is an objective game with 5 turns. I did some errors and had some bad rolls, but it continuous to feel like an uphill battle. Yeah custodes are a melee bully army, and that's basically the opposite of what we want to deal with, even with our Jump troops; we want to be the melee bully in any given matchup, but unfortunately SM melee options aren't bully enough on their own, and require BA to even get to bully levels, so when someone with a tricked out list who's intending to be the bully, we are already on the back-foot. Just like you said, lacking high maneuverability units is gonna be tough; you're probably never going to table the Custodes player unless you teched into it directly, so trying to win on objectives is the gameplan most of the time. Custodes are basically "How good am I at flipping a coin?" army, which is TOUGH. That they're also doing what we want to do, but just outright better datasheets to do it, is hard to overcome. I've seen some success with teching towards weight of dice; no one can flip 50 coins ina row and be correct all the time, but I think SM has a tough time bringing that many guns to bear while also retaining at least a LITTLE of our flavor of Blood Angels. A tough row to hoe! Probably too many Land Raiders; they're so expensive. And despite the math saying it's ok, I've only ever been disappointed in my ranged dread. The bolt storm aggressors together with the secondary armament on the repulsor basically wiped the alarus and captain in the shooting phase (OoM target). Good old massed S4 AP0 fire... On the other hand I don't want to build against one specific enemy. Next time, he could bring guard to the table and I would be screwed. Well, I guess it's really too many Raiders in the end. I love aggressors so my solution is more aggressors :P Land raiders just end up eating so many points. I find it hard to advocate for big transports when you can run across the board with most factions NBD. I love my Land Raiders but I do see you point. I love mine too, it's done some great work (Actually, it's done it's best work while masquerading as Custodes, funny enough. Took out a Whirlwind and a dread one time with Godhammers), and I love the idea of transports in a vacuum, but in 10th at least, I'm finding myself less likely to bring transport for almost any faction. Death Guard still probably want some rhino's to help alleviate, but with terrain rules providing quite a bit of defense by themselves, and boards being smaller, they start to feel like points taxes as opposed to worthwhile strategies. There's definitely some play with transports in certain situations, but overall, if I can just walk a lot of things on from the side or the rear if I really need to, or start it on the board and walk it up while retaining visual breaks to keep them alive easily enough. If boards were a little bigger I think I'd flip almost immediately to wanting 7th/8th/9th levels of transports, but current board sizes they don't feel necessary; it's not often I NEED to walk someone from my deployment to the opponents, as every faction has purpose defined units to do the "Get into opponents DZ" niche.
