There is a specific sect of Red-Helmed Ultra's in 30k who are a bit naughty (...or something).

Not Traitor, but they disregard orders purely to exact revenge on traitors or something. Though I could be 110% wrong there!

Ah yes I think you're right – I remember hearing that. I think the 40k red helms have something to do with that, but obviously it's no longer a negative thing...

Their red helms are an honor to a censored guy.

But the red/white helms are the only helmet distinction, and it is to honor specific people.

The Blood Angels use them as a unit distinction, the ultras do not. The ultras have specific shoulder symbols to designate, where as the BA's base it purely off of helmet.

I think it will be a mistake both for modeling and lore if they make helmet colors post reform.

One of the main things that led me to creating a successor was that I didn't want yellow headed assault marines....

Hum....about this, i think it may depend from one chapter to another. Flesh Tearers use Codex marking, so no Yellow helmets, same for the Blood Drinkers. And personally, form my Knights of Blood Assault Marines, their helmets are of the same Grey (or will be white) as their Power Armour (Devastator will have Black Helmets, Tactical have Red, and Veterans will be White or Gold depending the Assault Squad helmets).

I applied the same reasonement to the Squad marking. (Yellow became Red for the Winged and Lightning ones for exemple).

----------------------------------------------------------

Edit : I also add, a minor change exemple of my Knights of Blood. In order to stick to the 5th BA codex Model photo and the Reflection in Blood quickread description, i moved from Mechanicum Grey/Administratum Grey to Eshin Grey/Dawnstone grey. (I just took the liberty to remove the Grey Parts on the Backpack to make it full Red. This way, it also look like the Flesh Tearers paint scheme, since Backpack/Helmet/Shoulder pads are a different colors from the rest of the Power Armour.)

Its because of Aeonid Thiel, one of the true awesome Ultras. He basically started doing theoretical planning about fighting other Astartes. He then went to Calth, after the radiation stuff, and started building practical methods for doing so. He had the red helm because the Ultras all thought it was a bad idea. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Aeonid_Thiel

Nice work, Luther! Other than a clear and resounding victory, how did it go?

To start with, and up until mid game - pretty badly! It was diagonal deployment and he did a good job of penning me in with a wall of Devastators, snipers and his Predator. My two Razorbacks didn't make it past turn 2, my Vindicator didn't get a single shot off thanks to crew shaken results and then being stripped of hull points, and the Sicaran didn't last much longer either.

Then Dante failed his reserve roll. And his re-roll.

But, my tactical squads made the most of having to disembark in completely the wrong place by mopping up his podded-in Sternguard and taking out his melta-speeder with melta bombs. The Death Company broke free thanks to the mobility of their jump packs and carved up his scouts, and the Sanguinary Guard & Priest made short work of his Techmarine warlord. I also managed to pop his Dreadnought with a lascannon before one of the Razorbacks got toasted and that was his only real CQC threat.

Then Dante came in and between him and the Guard wiped out his Devastators before consolidating with the last two Guardsmen onto his Emperor's Will objective turn 5. Meanwhile across the board my last remaining tactical marine narrowly escaped being flamed by the other speeder to secure my own EW objective.

Had it gone to turn 6 he may have got at least one of the objectives back, but I rolled a 2

*grin*

Speaking about games I know this could be asked in a thread all of its own, but I'm specifically asking for generalized purposes, is there a "standardized" points in Europe right now? I know on this side of the pond (or at least in my surrounding area) 1850 is what most people play. I've seen several of the bigger tournaments being played at 1500-1650. And I've heard in recent years the London crowd still usually stays around 1750.

Sounds like a satisfying win Luther! Good to hear that it's not just me who takes a battering before being able to gain a win in the final turns :tongue.: The cost of a melee focused army I guess!

The cost, but also the joy

That is true! My opponents hide units in transports and hold others in Reserve but they know that it matters not in the end. It may take a few turns but I'll get to those units and carve them up eventually :biggrin.:

I don't play tournaments Dont-Be-Haten but my gaming group does play at 1750. Not sure if that's a European standard though, it's just a nice middle ground between 1500 (you can't get all the toys you want in) and 2000 (too many toys) in relation to average game time :happy.:

1850 is norm in Germany. Sometimes 1650 to speed things up.

But i enjoy also 1500 Games. I like the 1850-2000 Point List´s the most cause you can bring so much units in it that need to get dust of.

Next Saturday i will play after a long period an pure BA list. Not sure if with 30 DC in the Strikeforce Mortalis or with the Vetrans of the Sanguine Wing. :smile.:
