I just discovered, that the storm bolter bit from the upgrade sprue even fits perfectly onto the pushfit leviathan Terminators. That means you could retrofit all of the four storm bolter guys with one DC armybox. Glad I didn't glue them yet

It looks like GW are releasing the alternative SG in the new sigmarines next week. Seriously, take a look at the Procescutors, and tell me they wouldn't make better SG. There's also a ton of conversion material in the release for characters for those handy with the green stuff.

i dont think they'd make better SG.

considering the main complaint outside of the wings about the SG is that their armour is too plain and too uniform and that they have heads too like sigmarites...

using a unit where all the models have plain, identical armour with sigmarite helms feels like a fail.

The wing style doesn't look like angels either so not like they're a good alternative.

I like the pillars they are on - would probably be good for use on SG.

But overall at least the SG actually look like power armour and have at least some BA details on them. If you need to be good with GS to make the prosecutors look like space marines, the SG are still a better base to start from.

I don't think new SG heads look like Stormcast, I think most of the stormcast helmets are cool and fit a more regal/vampiric aesthetic.

The SG ones are just weird and chonky.  Got plenty of replacements tho, once the Combat Patrol drops.

The Sanguinary Priest is sold out in a lot of local places already for pre-orders, I'm wondering if there's some combo I'm overlooking.  Kinda good with a cap or LT with some Assault Intercessors, but I don't think it's "Buy 3x" of, which the lots of sold out indicates to me.

How? Just because of the wings?

people out here complaining about SG not having enough BA decorations, despite multiple blood drops, molded wings on the jump packs, and on the weapons…but stormcast with wings are better SG magically.

i love the wings, I think they look fantastic, and I definitely plan on kit bashing them, especially for that badass trident since that’s my successor’s chapter badge.

but they are in no way better blood angels than the SG.

on that i definitely agree. I also think they can stand as decent inspiration for poses!

p.s. having seen the sprues for the captain and guard now.

Annoyingly the guard legs dont have separate greave fronts, which means my original plan to swap out one from the captain (which does have them separate) is somewhat more challenging.

Still going to give it a go of course.

I wrote that very much with tongue in cheek. However, the new Stormcast could definitely provide parts for kitbashing.

With the vitriol people showed toward the SG it can be hard to tell when someone says something ridiculous if they’re joking or not lol

The ammo pouch on the belt is optional. So if one wants to have a slimmer look on their Sanguinary Guard you can definatly leave them off. Also it seems they come with a big decal sheet including squad markings and campaign badges.

Fair.

IIRC there was someone that made some awesome characters from SC. That may be why I mentioned these. Also, some don't use 3rd party some there are at least an option.

Thanks for that information. Did you see this on an unboxing video or something? I wouldn't mind seeing the transfer sheet.

if you look for warhipster on youtube, he did a (fairly negative) review of the sprues. I personally didn't agree with a lot of the complaints he had, but he does at least have good in focuse shots of all the sprues for the new kits as well as the transfers.

A hipster disliking something new? Color me shocked -_-

If you want to just look at the pictures you can have a look at this link. You can swipe through the sang guard pics and get a glimpse of the booklet and transfers.

Have to say I'm delighted to see the  lower angle sword pose of the one sang guard guy depicted. I really disliked the 'look at ma sword!' pose if you put it straight up. But this pose works for me.

I normally don't like being debbie downer (though I'll admit that I've kinda been one for a little while...), but my motivation for painting BA has absolutely tanked after the release (I'm very much not a fan). Anyone got any suggestions?

I still really like Blood Angels, I've got plenty of old models, and even plans for kitbashing newer units from older kits, but just can't seem to get around to working on them. I started painting a LRC earlier this month, but haven't gotten past basecoating, and the only reason I've gotten that far is because of the 12 months of hobby.

Some times we just need a break.
if you never have the desire to return from your break that’s an answer, if a month or 3 from now you feel refreshed and ready to jump back in there ya go.

like @Inquisitor_Lensoven above says, if you're not feeling it, don't force it.

The release was polarising, as many have been lately. There's not a lot of point going along and spending money on things you don't like.

You can of course just kitbash the model side if you like the rules.

I'd ask myself:

Why do I like blood angels?

Do I like the new rules?

Do I like anything about the models?

Do I like alternative (third party, or converted) options instead for the models?

For me:

I love the lore of blood angels, and that is pretty unscathed IMO, I've been listening to the Dante series recently (I read them when they came out, thought Id give the audio books a go), and that's helped, I also watched some videos on Sanguinius' relationship with the Lion and then also the Lions reaction to Dante, which was also cool. I also love the colour red, so that helps.

I like the new rules a lot, the liberation force in particular is excellent because it feels so thematic for blood angels, IMO its the most thematic set of rules we've had in a long long while.

I like all the new models, there are some things I'll change, but I change bits of basically all my models anyway. This helps me out a lot.

Whilst not my cup of tea, there are a host of "primaris" sanguinary guard alternatives out there - same for many characters these days.

to answer the question,

1. I always like the trope of the noble soul keeping the monster inside at bay. I also really liked the ornate aesthetic that they have. "Music to soothe the savage beast" and all that.

2. The new rules do seem pretty fun. Haven't gotten in a game since they dropped though. The loss of VVet viability hurts (they were my lynchpin unit game after game, and that might also be affecting my motivation), and I don't have anything tabletop ready to replace them. It admittedly wouldn't take much to get 6 SG to that point though.

3. Astorath and Lemmy are admittedly very good sculpts (I'll definitely get an Astorath, but probably won't get Lemmy. He's good, but I don't expect to run more than 1 unit of DC, and I very much like Astorath more), and the new captain and sanguinor are decent (I don't have an old Sanguinor, so I'll probably eventually get the new one). Very disappointed in everything else. I won't go into more detail because it'll become a rant (already had one typed up and deleted it).

4. I still have some plans for FB kitbashing, and I'm not completely adverse to 3rd party bits (the torsos and heads on my FB BGV are from vbits studios), but I don't do full proxies. However, I increasingly feel like I'm not going to be excited about any releases going forward. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a new release and thought 'I need one of those!'

So those are my answers. Not sure what to do with them, but there they are.

It was more meant for you to think about them and weigh them up than necessarily to share with us, particularly as these things are subjective and there’s no wrong answers. But I appreciate you sharing!

it seems like there’s a few things you are unhappy with, just have to weigh those things up vs the things you are happy with. Find ways to focus on the stuff you like most about them and move past the things you don’t like, you can avoid the new sanguinary guard and death company if desired, or work out a plan to make them more how you’d like them to be.

ultimately you may just need a break, I do it from time to time, I’ll step away for a few months and then come back to it.

I've not opened my death company box set either, not built any of the models within it. I tend to bounce between my hobbies but I'm getting the urge to get building and painting soon.  I've been a little disappointed with some of the models, but I have purchased one of these to help with making the DC dreadnought a lot more DC looking.
