wulfgar hammerfist
My list can be referenced here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297095-need-some-help-with-this-list/ I had two games with this list tonight. The first was against Tyranids and the Second was against Sentinels of Terra. Game 1: Crusade (Dawn of War) vs Tyranids Harridan 2 x Flyrants Tervigon Venomthrope 2 x Zoanthrope 2 x 30 Termagants The terrain was mostly woods and hills and a couple of ruins. We rolled four objectives so each placed two. #1 was placed in a ruins, #2 placed near center, #3 was placed in the upper right corner (from my table edge) and #4 was placed behind a wood area. I deployed first and placed a servitor on #1 and #4 which were both on my edge. I castled up in the lower right corner which was a mistake. I should have spread out to make his flyers think more about where to go. The Tyranids deployed in the opposite corner with most things screened by the termagants. He rolled a bunch of psychic powers of which the most dangerous to me were the warp blasts. He seized the initiative and went first. This game came down to a cat and mouse hunt. I couldn't really hurt his flyers, although I did manage to kill one flyrant, so I focused on trying to grab objectives and distract him away from them. He did get first blood on me by killing the Iron Priest when I rolled double ones for his armor save. I should have been more aggressive with the knights to pin him in his deployment zone but I was hesitant. At the end of the game I had two objectives and he had two, I had line breaker and he had slay the warlord and first blood so I lost by one point. It was a very maneuver centered game. It is tough to keep your armor facing the right direction when the flyers have 360o LOS. The Harridan is a big nasty and, with the ability to fire on two targets at once, is quite a handful. I just didn't have anything that could effectively bring it down. 8-7 Tyranids Game 2: Purge the Alien (Hammer and Anvil) vs. Sentinels of Terra Lysander 2 Librarians 5 TH/SS Termies 4 Razorbacks with TLAC, 5 tactical marines each with a meltagun 2 x Stormtalons 2 x Vindicators 1 x Land Raider Crusader I deployed most of the army behind a large LOS blocking piece of terrain. I deployed one dreadnought on my far right flank to cover the avenue of approach there and the knights were deployed centrally. He deployed the LRC on my right flank on that high speed avenue of approach, 2 razors were tucked behind a hill, two razors were in reserve and the vindicators were placed in a ruin at the back of his deployment zone. He seized the initiative. Not my night for going first. The LRC moved 12" up that right flank and went flat out in the shooting phase to close the distance. The Razorbacks didn't move and neither did the vindicators, which puzzled me. The razorback assault cannons were about an inch out of range of the right knight and he thought the demolisher cannon was a 72" range weapon which I corrected him on. On my turn I dropped both BlizzDreads in his deployment zone near the two razorbacks and placed them back to back. The right dread moved up to the LRC, Bjorn and another dread took position in some ruins and the last dread moved around to the left to take pot shots at the vindicators. The IP hid behind the ruins and just waited. I immobilized a vindicator, stripped some hull points off of the razorbacks and blew up the LRC in the assault phase. First Blood to me. The game turned into a massacre from here as I tore his army apart in three turns. Murderfang never did make it to the party and my opponent conceded on turn three. I was more aggressive with the knights and I was able to keep Lysander and his Hammernators away from my army except for the sacrificial dread who blew up the LRC. 8-1 Space Wolves Talking to some of the guys tonight, the tournament on Saturday is going to be a tough one with two Warhound lists and a Stompa list. I will probably draw one of those lists first round. I think I can tag team the Stompa with the two knights but not sure of what to do about a warhound titan. Frater Cornelius
Knights eat Warhounds in melee and Knight and Stompa usually kill each other in melee making it a favourable trade for you. Good to see that it worked out though ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297242-battle-report-summary-march-of-the-ancients/#findComment-3818454 Share on other sites
wulfgar hammerfist
I was quite pleased with the list overall. As I get more experience using the knights it will become a better list. I like having a bunch if robots running around smashing things. I will run a couple of test encounters against the Stompa and warhound to see how they do in pairs and individually. The scoring servitors are ace! Frater Cornelius
HEAVY METAL \m/ Â Actually, did you notice? Even though we lost our FOC moving HQs, we still have one of the most diverse codecies out there. Thanks to that COF supplement we can do full TWC, full mech, march of the ancients, full TDA and full bike, and thanks to the Stormwolf full flyer. With Fenrisian Wolves and Bloodclaws we also take a decent stab at a Horde army. And every one of the above can be effective. Â Not even the SM codex can top that. Best supplement ever :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297242-battle-report-summary-march-of-the-ancients/#findComment-3818720 Share on other sites
wulfgar hammerfist
The codex is incredibly diverse which makes it fun to play around with. One of my opponents last night tried to argue that my list was unbound so I had to show him that it wasn't. Of course he cried cheese, this coming from the guy fielding a harridan... Hear da Lamentation
A question on the unbound. I know it isn't ... but other than the warlord trait your not getting any other benefit from CoF are you? ( not a dis just wondering why he was bothered ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297242-battle-report-summary-march-of-the-ancients/#findComment-3818939 Share on other sites
wulfgar hammerfist
He was uncomfortable facing that much armor. His list is better at massacring infantry based armies. The fact that I can field up to 8 elites in a battle forged army upset him. I don't even get to re-roll my warlord trait because Bjorn comes with his own which in this list is kind of useless. FenrisWolf
And sometimes you might choose CoF just for the relics, even if you use the "stock" Force Org chart.
