Not necessarily competitive, but a 'fun-factor' list

Hi Brothers!

So this is a question i'm posing to all the seasoned vets that have played SW across many editions. There has been lots of discussions surrounding the almost 'min-max' best possible builds, go-to units and getting the most out of 7th ed changes.

The question is, discounting the above, what for you are the most fun units, or combination of units that have made a flavourful and fun game. A game that you have wished you didn't have to roll the dice past turn 6 to see if it ends, one that has brought laughter and "OH-NO's!!!!". Is there specific combos that you have put into your list that have fulfilled these criteria?

It's like golf, a game in which I am terrible....but there is always that 1 drive, chip or putt that brings me back to play....That's what I'm looking for from you.

I guess I'll start it off, for me it must be a lone wolf termie with SS and 2 pups. The resilience and the determination to not die has often been the focal point of many of my games and my opponents attention on a single guy is hilarious. Back in 6th, on a few occasions they were also MVP's...even having to walk across the whole board.

Onto you experienced vets! what has been your most fun units to field or combo's of units!

For the fun! help me construct a 1850 fun-filled list. (PS. I've got my heart set on void-claws formation inclusion already)

A lot of fun usually comes from random elements, which SW do not have that many. That is the domain of Orks and Daemons. Having said that, I do have a few units I like.

Lone Wolves. Nothing beats seeing your opponent failing to kill that one angry dude coming his way. It is almost ridiculous how much abuse one can take. My record in 6ed was a TDA LW with SS/CF and 2 Wolves weathering the shooting of a LRC, killing said Crusader, then weather the shooting and charge of the BT command squad + Champ inside, and killing those off biggrin.png

Lukas. Not as hilarious as he was, he is still a lot of fun when the enemies expensive characters are attempting to run away from Lukas while you laugh like a maniac.

Hero Hammer build. Take every single named character, preferably with a small unit of bodyguards to hide them in and send them towards the enemy. Glorious! That is one of my favourite fun-lists to play out of ALL the armies I have played. And that is saying a lot msn-wink.gif

Technically, you can combine all of the 3 above into a COF or WUD. Take all your preferred named characters, take Murderfang and Arjac in elite, take Lukas in troops, maybe a few Lone Wolves and some small units for the characters and send them towards the enemy.

COF has some nice formations to help out. Grimnars War Council helps you get more characters in. Together with Björn you have a fairly good chance to steal initiative. You can still take Voidclaws in addition to that. Very low model-count in the end but laods of character(s) ;)

One thing I miss is the old 3rd ed book's Venerable Dreadnought. Thanks to him being an HQ, he met the old '1 HQ per 750 points' criteria, which was a massive plus. But the old guy never left my lists until the 5th ed codex was released, and rarely disappointed with his plasma cannon and heavy flamer. In a similar vein, one unit I really need to test out is the current incarnation of the SW Contemptor, AV13, invun, fleet and 4 attacks on profile? Yes please, not only nasty crunch wise, but it's finally a Dreadnought that may somewhat live up to the awesome fluff.

So yeah, Dreadnought are fun! Run all the Dreadnoughts (thank you CoF supplement)!

Going old school here, but Wolf Scouts all kitted out to use behind enemy lines and destroy tanks, the look on their face when their 200 point tank blew to a then 105 point unit was grand.  I would usually kill myself more often than my opponent with my 2 plasma pistols and taking wounds from the exploding radius of the tank they just assaulted.1 power weapon, 2 shotguns 2 pp and 1 melta all with melta bombs.
