Quicksilver117
so, I apologize if this has already been covered a thousand times. But I have been wondering, what the best choice is between, commissar yarrick, and a company command squad. After assembling the command squad with all of the upgrades that I desired, they cost almost exactly the same as yarrick does alone. So, I am asking I guess for people with experience using both, which have served you better? Brother Dallo
Apologies that I know next to nothing about the new Guard codex, but for a more useful discussion, it might be helpful if you lay out what upgrades you put on your command squad. A squad tooled up with plasma guns will perform much differently to a combat oriented squad with power weapons and flamers, for example. Hope you get sorted Dallo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297268-who-shall-lead-us-in-this-dark-hour/#findComment-3818829 Share on other sites
Quicksilver117
ah, excellent point. Right now my command squad has 1 autocannon team. Each member has carapace armor. the company commander has changed his Laz pistol for a boltgun. and I have included A officer of the fleet, and a vox. Kilofix
The Company Command with Orders and Officer of the Fleet is cheaper than Yarrick, so I go with that. But I also don't deck out my Command with Carapace and weapons - I leave that to the Platoons or Vets. WarriorFish
It depends what you need, they perform different roles. The CCS is a supporting unit, best skulking around giving out vital orders whereas Yarrick is more in your face - he needs to be in the front lines leading your troops and ripping Ork heads off. The CCS is better kept cheaper as Kilo says, but you just can't beat Yarrick for being hard and taking names (or heads). He has a cool model and backstory, plus some nifty special rules like getting back up again after losing his last wound (he's that tough). Quicksilver117
okay, I am just sanity checking myself here. But the hero of Hades hive is capable of issuing orders the same as a company commander correct? Cap'm Heckus
Yarrick seems best saved for special scenarios and events. He's a too bit pricey and specialized to be considered "auto-include". Mr. Bleak
What I like best is CCS with Master of Ordinance, Officer of the Fleet, Vox, and Medic. This keeps them cheap, reasonably survivable, and undercuts Yarrick by a few special weapons. They also put out a pie plate a turn alongside the orders and reserves manipulation. Quicksilver117
How well does the astropath do for you guys? And is the master of ordinance worth it? I thought he was more of a humor value or apocalypse kind of guy. WarriorFish
The Master of Ordnance is ok, not particularly great. The pie plate o' doom is fun but I like my CCS to be cheaper and constantly on the move so I don't use him. The Astropath is something that I often forget exists, I'd rather have options past Telepathy and take a Primaris. CoffeeGrunt
I like the Officer of the Fleet personally, but then I play with a couple of Fliers, so it's handy for that boost to get them on the field. WarriorFish
Officer of the Fleet is good, as even if you're not using reserves much you can use him to meddle in your opponent's plans :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297268-who-shall-lead-us-in-this-dark-hour/#findComment-3819248 Share on other sites
Quicksilver117
That is definitely my feeling for him, he is just going to be useful in so many ways. Would giving the astropath sanctic or malefic daemonology make him a worthwhile pickup? I do not know much about psychic phases and all that. WarriorFish
The Astropath can only take from Telepathy, even if he wasn't limited there are better ways to get some psychic mojo in the codex. Quicksilver117
OK, but I thought the current rules said that any psycher could take the daemonology paths? Am I wrong there, this is more a clarification of the rules question. WarriorFish
There was some clarifications, but I can't seem to find the FAQs for love nor money at the moment  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297268-who-shall-lead-us-in-this-dark-hour/#findComment-3819594 Share on other sites
