trouble with numbers

Hey guys,

I've been writing lists for seventh and I keep running into a consistent issue. I am having a hard time getting lots of bodies in my list. Last codex I had like 40+ pa marines and 5-10 tda, but since 7th arrival I don't seem to build the same the same numbers into my lists.

Has anyone else run into this?

Does any one think they have hit on a good ratio of bodies for a list? I know our old codex we had our recommended rule of 10 greyhunters per 500 points, and I know that came from a few years of grinding on it. Anyone have an inkling as to what the new one might be?

See i had a hard tme eve with the last book, had the old old codex for too long.

II guess a way to look at it is by looking at what it is you are putting in your list now, that you didn't then, and trying to figure out if it will owrk equal to or better then what you had before. And going out and play testing things will also get you a solid answer.

Every new book and/or edition I always clear my mind and regard the book as a stand-alone, and not in comparison to the previous. That way I can attempt to get the best out of the current book regardless of what came before.

To answer you question, no I have no run into the same issue because I have completely changed my army setup because the new book allowed it.

Thanks for the thoughts so far guys.

@ Immersturm, I try but that is a bit difficult for me, also the models I own were mostly acquired with the old edition in mind. I agree that a new book requires new thought though, hence why I began this thread to see what others were thinking.

And I thank you jbibkb for starting it.  I had and have many of the same questions.  I was going through the models I've already built and seeing what transferred or would have a place in the new codex.  Still thinking about it and would like to see other's ideas and comments too.

Yea, I have far to many power fist models from the old old book. I agree that running out and buying the lates GW things, doesn't always work well as money is tight. That is why I try to make what I have work, even if it goes against what people say you should bring.

If I starting from a clean slate, and writing lists from scratch, it would be one thing.  But that's not the case.  I've got over 20 years worth of Space Wolves collected, and I'm not about to re-do the whole thing, so 7th edition lists are entirely affected by what I actually have on-hand.  In that context, I, too, have found it difficult to figure out what foundation I want to base my lists around, and have also found that the points add up quickly.  I'm having to sacrifice a lot of units, weapons, and wargear that I want to take, but just can't find the points for.   New edition and new codex transitions are always tough, but are especially tough when you're heavily invested in your model collection, and just can't afford (time, money, or effort) to start over each time.

I don't think there is a good rule of thumb for the amount of power armour bodies we have in a list now. Seventh has really wide open list building its not like fifth and sixth when certain units were needed to score. I'm sure something will be considered the competitive build but I have a feeling it'll involve allies, formations, etc.

Some what related, but I have found my army much better with this new book. Terminators and Wolves, baby. I do think they are very strong in this edition. And Blood Claws seem the most appealing to me now. Grey Hunters, your time has come, old friends.

End of Line

I've really gone bananas on terminators, it really isn't sane anymore! Although I suspect that there are quite a few wolves amongst us here that carries a larger amount of terminators than what I do. Since Stormclaw was released I've collected several squads so that I now have around 20 terminators, which for me is more than enough. I usually try to max out on Grey Hunters, partly because they are great and partly because I love the boots on the ground approach. Now I have to try to make room for my terminators which means that I'll likely have to sacrifice more Grey Hunters than what I already have done since quite a few choices have gone up in points.

Well, adjust and carry on I pressume! Still, I play rather small games, from 1 000 - 1 850 and yet I wouldn't leave home without at least two squads of Grey Hunters if I don't go bananas and max out on terminators for some deep striking shenenigans!
