FenrisWolf
So with the new codex, some of my models are either no longer allowed or useful. Some I'll just leave and make new ones (grey hunters for example). But I have five of Mythicast's Thunderwolves from before GW made ones. They're resin and I have mounted plastic SW torsos to them. I want to convert them to Iron Priests and a WGBL. The WGBL is pretty standard, although I have to change his weapons. I haven't had to "unbuild" anything yet. I need some ideas and techniques for removing plastic from resin and undoing plastic glued arms. Any help? Dantay VI
If you used plastic glue on plastics, its a cutting job. Plastic glue, fuses the plastics together almost like melting them to make a super strong bond. If its superglue then you have some hope as it is more brittle and you could maybe snap perts off of each other. Again with super glue, it is possible that some chemicals that folks use to strip paints from their models helps loosen it up. Sorry I can't help any further than that Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297328-undoing-some-models/#findComment-3820128 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
Well, depends on the glue. If you used proper plastic glue (the one that melts the plastic parts together), then you are in for some work. You will need to cut it through with a hobby knife. A very sharp one. Not easy when you want to remove things like army. You could basically cut through with clippers but only with considerable damage, although nothing that could not be fixed with Green Stuff. If you used crappy glue, it's easy. I usually use some miniature pliers and pull. Does the job fairly easily. Just do not try it like this when you used proper glue, it will break the model. ORKILL
If the models were assembled with super glue, put them in the freezer over night. The cold weakens the glue, making it very brittle. Parts should pop right off. If the models were assembled with plastic glue, good luck. Brother Dallo
To echo what's been said, plastic glue isn't coming apart any time soon. Super glue is easier. Freeze it for a day or so, then use copious amounts of brute force and/or ignorance. Aparently superglue makes use of water molecules in its bonding process. Freezing the water makes it expand, loosening the glue. If it's still being stubborn. I find taking it from the freezer and putting it into nearly boiling water helps, though don't leave the models long. I made that mistake and now have some beautifully warped 40mm bases. Hope is helps Dallo EDIT Ninja'd! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297328-undoing-some-models/#findComment-3820140 Share on other sites
FenrisWolf
Awesome guys! I hadn't heard about the freezing technique! And I figured the plastic glue is a cutting job, but I have lots of torsos and arms. In that case, take the clippers and make sure you do not damage to parts you still need :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297328-undoing-some-models/#findComment-3820186 Share on other sites
