+Grimdark Prince Adam+
Thanks very much! I managed to finish my first vehicle - the Razorback. I plan on doing the stormwolf next, first I wanted to learn a bit with painting the razorback. C&C are welcome, as usual http://i.imgur.com/sd8IjAw.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/l0QP7l9.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/iCIbtZZ.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/yj9qoNG.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/fjvOfby.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/2jy4UIL.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/Ys2XdAO.jpg?1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297408-space-wolves-by-adam-vi-legion-vlka-fenryka/page/3/#findComment-3886461 Share on other sites
LutherMax
Looks really good! I do think it would benefit from some more iconography (by way of decals) – particularly on the flat-sided door. Also, the soot staining around the exhausts looks a bit patchy, what method are you using for that? Donkalleone
Im pretty sure the turret of the RB has to be on the back not in the middle. +Grimdark Prince Adam+
Donkal - After fitting it both ways, and having in mind that Space Wolves and Codex Astartes don't go along very well, I decided to assemble him as I find it more to my appeal, and actually more logically for me Luther - what do you mean patchy? Please elaborate, so I know what you mean. The stains were washes put there with a sponge and some with brush too. And thanks! Firepower
I'm not totally buying the smoke/exhaust weathering. Directionality is good, but there should still be at least some in front of the exhausts as well as behind. Less of the former than the latter, certainly, but right now there's pretty much only the latter. It may help to have it darker near the exhaust as well, rather than a single shade of gray. And not to belabor the point, but the edges of the gray are very cleanly defined, which hurts the effect some. I'd try dry brushing some of the basecoat back into the edges a bit to break up the borderline: if you try to break it up with more smoke, I can promise you the line will still show through. Washes work well for liquid staining like oil, but for dry staining like soot you want dry pigment or drybrushed / stippled / sponged matte paint. MithrilForge
Adam , your stuff is always fantastic but i gotta agree with above posters on the fact you need some dry work on the exhaust to make your excellent piece even more unreal cheers Mithril p.s. i actually like the minimal icons and what-not, too much wolfy sometimes looks...tacky Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297408-space-wolves-by-adam-vi-legion-vlka-fenryka/page/3/#findComment-3887393 Share on other sites
+Grimdark Prince Adam+
Wow! Thanks guys for all the comments, I will actually add that soot you are talking about, Luther. I will try to stipple it with a black paint and see where that takes me. Could you maybe give me a link with an example of how its done? Firepower - as I want this razorback to look as good as possible, could you tell me, which edges of the grey are you talking about? I mean, which location on the vehicle? Mithrilthanks mate! As for the icons and what-not, I agree. Many of the space wolves things are too wolfed up, with wolfed this and wolfy wolves all around the wolf wolf Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297408-space-wolves-by-adam-vi-legion-vlka-fenryka/page/3/#findComment-3887527 Share on other sites
LutherMax
I can't think of a tutorial off the top of my head... Do you have an airbrush? That would be another (and in fact the easiest) way. That's how I did it on my Baal Pred: http://www.themightybrush.com/?p=168 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297408-space-wolves-by-adam-vi-legion-vlka-fenryka/page/3/#findComment-3888149 Share on other sites
Firepower
These edges, especially the front one, popped out at me. There's a very distinct edge that looks unnatural for the effect. Stippling/drybrushing like Luther suggests could break up the edge. However, like I said before, to break up that particular edge you will want to use the blue-gray of the basecoat, rather than the same gray/black as the stain. If you try to do it with the gray/black, odds are the original line will still show through, thanks to the translucent nature of the paints. I'm not sure how I would fix the one in the rear, because although there is a distinct line, it goes from one gray/black to another, rather than a clear line against the blue. +Grimdark Prince Adam+
Ok, now I get it, I did the black stippling already, ill do something with this as well. +Grimdark Prince Adam+
Hey Guys! If I'm not posting it doesn't mean I'm not painting So here are 2 new Wolf Guards, with magnetised backpacks. I'm planning to do a melee oriented wolf guard unit to accompany my terminator squad as the base of a CoF detachment, so more of these to come (it is under painting right now, together with a grey hunter with melta, soon to come). http://i.imgur.com/GmimxB4.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/VHOAwbV.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/K2EnGDt.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/3bLTJ9K.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/6VfyP1j.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/ZATtpll.jpg?1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297408-space-wolves-by-adam-vi-legion-vlka-fenryka/page/3/#findComment-3912490 Share on other sites
+Grimdark Prince Adam+
bleh, no comments, but anyway: I just bought myself a small load of bits, the most interesting being many special and combi weapons. But there was also this poor little necron chap, and he gave me a fun idea, here's the WIP: http://i.imgur.com/Y1gaTZ9.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/7NJwLWf.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/OmbKaMq.jpg?1 First I wanted to give him the calm Bloodclaw face (there is one, really), but then I placed the head as in the picture, and it started to look really cruel... so there you have it This guys will be painted as a Grey Hunter. FENRISÚLFUR
First off I want to say you have done a wonderful job bringing these Sons of Russ to life! Your painting really does the models justice. You make very good work of the blending and highlighting in each and every model. One small thing that I noticed was that you have the Company and Unit Shoulder pads backwards. Typically Space Wolves wear their Great Company logo on the left, and their pack markings on their right. Its the most noticeable on the models with Ragnar's GC logo facing backwards. Aesthetically the wolfs head facing backwards just looks wrong to me. Thanks guys! Hear da Lamentation - actually, these are their primary weapons This is a good day for Space Wolves - Wolf Guard Pack Leader is ready for action: http://i.imgur.com/Cdqwxl8.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/pdIElJV.jpg?1http://i.imgur.com/NkzVrYI.jpg?1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297408-space-wolves-by-adam-vi-legion-vlka-fenryka/page/3/#findComment-3925557 Share on other sites
+Grimdark Prince Adam+
Thanks FENRISÚLFUR for the much appreciated comment! If you look closer on all the figures, you will notice its exactly how you said - company marking on the left (the simple thunder pattern) and pack marking on the right. However, I did a change fluffwise for my company of Space Wolves. Their pack markings stay the same no matter at what level they are, but their company marking display their unit - red-yellow for Bloodclaws, black-red for Grey Hunters, black-yellow for Wolf Guard and so on. Therefore, in the example you gave above, the wolf head is his pack marking, not company marking. Also, some of the fenrisians proceed up the ladder faster than others in their initial pack (even Ragnar himself is an example of that), some die in the process (like, well, you know... war?), so that way units are composed of guys from several initial packs, keeping their initial pack insignia on their right shoulder plate. Of course, I needed this change to be able to come up with a simple pattern (I am not the master of freehands ), easy enough to replicate in various colour codings (as given above), and which will give the whole army a sense of integrity, at the same time making their individuality pop out a bit. And thats the whole story behind these markings Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297408-space-wolves-by-adam-vi-legion-vlka-fenryka/page/3/#findComment-3925575 Share on other sites
