Night Lords & Dark Angels

The Red Thirst

Recommended Posts

At first I was like, YAAAY!!!

...then I saw Gav Thorpe's name. Maybe he'll kill off the rest of our favorite Dark Angel characters ;.(

Wait. Is that Sheng on the cover?

Oh, please let it be so.

He finna go die. Corswain's gonna get some revengence.

When I first saw him I thought it might be Flaymaster Mawdrym Llansahai from Massacre.

The knife he holds could be the Red Jaqa biggrin.png

How is Sheng described to look in the Heresy?

EDIT: Just realised that the gauntlets arnt painted red, so it cant be the Flay Master :(

This. Exactly this.

I'd like to be able to reserve judgement until after I read it, but I'm afraid I'm a petty, snarky little man who bases his expctations on past experiences. And those past experiences make me think that our only hope is that A D-B sat Gav down in a room for a few days and checked his homework. Otherwise the NL will get their dose of cool from A D-B and we'll get yet another steaming dose of Gavslop.

Poor Corswain. Poor, poor Corswain.

TBH I'm kinda 50/50 with Thorpe.

I liked his Dark Angel Space Marine Battke book. With Deliverance Lost I disliked and liked parts in equal stead, but I'm still waiting on a proper RG HH book (haven't got Ravenlord though).

Still it's nice to see ADB get to some more Night Lords stuff.

See that's where I disagree. The NL have had way more than their fair share of A D-B love already. I just finished reading the Omnibus recently (on my honeymoon no less) and I thought it was fantastic, absolutely dripping with characterisation. Wouldn't you like the Raven Guard to get cool catchphrases like 'in midnight clad' or have the culture and psychology of your legion fleshed out to the extent the NLs were in that trilogy?

There are a number of underdeveloped legions desperately in need of this kind of attention and I'd rather see A D-B's talent spent on those, rather than re-treading familiar NL ground.

Yes.

The Dark Angels got more character and love from two of ADBs shorts then two whole heresy novels dedicated to them.

*crosses fingers*

Maybe the Dark Angel part will be from ADB and the NL one from Thorpe?

...hope is the first step on the road to disappointment >_<

I couldn't agree more.  Don't forget the First's cameo in Unremembered Empire.  That and ADB's shorts are the only bits that exist to me.  The rest I have internally censored out.

I mean Nemiel and Zahariel were cool....but that's it. And well - Gav ended one of their careers.

A well established and agreed fact. Just goes to show how dense A D-B's characterisation can be. That said, after reading the Omnibus in such a compressed timeframe I think he needs to come up with new similes for NL ships ("like sharks...") and weapons fire hitting void shields ("like oil on water..."), I lost count of how many times they got thrown down in the series.

I don't think they were cool, I think they were both bland and one dimensional. I don't fault Gav for killing one of them to free himself from dealing with their narrative, I fault him for doing it in a way that seemed so completely out of place and confusing.

All of this said, given the hate directed at Gav for his handling of the DA it's no surprise that other authors aren't keen to take them on. At this point we're the poisoned chalice of both the HH and 40K lore.

At least you're not mostly forgotten like the White Scars :\

What!?  I loved Scars!  I am considering building a White Scars army simply because of that novel.  Besides, if I've said it once I've said it a hundred times:  I'd much rather have a small amount of AWESOME fluff (a la White Scars) than a huge amount of garbage.

Anyways, it just goes to show what a sucker I am, since I will buy this anyways.  :)  A man can dream, can't he?

While, yes, they do have one awesome book, its still just one book in a quite literal sea of others. I'm actually quite happy that the Scars are getting great fluff even if its not en masse.

At least the Scars only book was good, Fear to Tread was mediocre at best, Im dying for a new novel, and before anyone say "oh but your time to shine will be at the end of the heresy" I highly doubt we did nothing but polish our armour until the siege

Naaah man, you guys did great at the defense of Molech....by uh...committing suicide.

Yeah.
