Bjorn Gordnikson
What are the opinions of this type of army? IG and SW, IG being used as long range support and tanks while SW used as medium and close combat Bjorn, the newbie Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297539-space-wolf-imperial-guard-army/ Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
It used to be a classic option with the 5ed codex. However, since IG now have their own access to divination, the value of this alliance has shrunken. Still, long ranged artillery is always welcome for those cowardly enough to use it ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297539-space-wolf-imperial-guard-army/#findComment-3824313 Share on other sites
FenrisWolf
Fluff wise, I think it's a good pairing. From what I gather the Wolves have a good reputation with the Guard, especially after Logan stuck up for them at the Third War for Armageddon. DanPesci
Aye cant see why not, and guard still work nicely for a gunline. You could also have them made up to be aett guard (guys who work/guard the fang). Also, goes without saying, but you really should take some leman russ tanks if doing this :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297539-space-wolf-imperial-guard-army/#findComment-3824461 Share on other sites
Bjorn Gordnikson
I think I might do that, maybe throw in some Bulgyrns for the fun of it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297539-space-wolf-imperial-guard-army/#findComment-3824856 Share on other sites
Wolf Guard Dan
Guard are a nice option for getting a lot of bodies for cheap. And for getting a lot of artillery or heavy weapons. Jochteas
* Just a fluff correction. But Logan beat inquisition ass after the first war of Armageddon. Frater Cornelius
He didn't as much beat the ass as he did rip open the Inquisitor's skull. FenrisWolf
* Just a fluff correction. But Logan beat inquisition ass after the first war of Armageddon. Whoops. Working off of memory. Should've checked the books first! Thanks for spotting that. Rift Blade
Still a viable thing by all means. Even could model from fluff perspective by making the Guard House Kearls. Use the new Miltarum Astrum with some wolf bits. Vash113
Still a viable thing by all means. Even could model from fluff perspective by making the Guard House Kearls. Use the new Miltarum Astrum with some wolf bits. This is what I do, and I use the following setup: Iron Hand Straken and Command Squad Sergeant Harker and Veteran Squad Veteran Squad (Formerly led by Bastonne, oh well) Full Valkyrie Gunship Squadron Full Leman Russ Exterminator Squadron The three squads of infantry fly around in the Valkyries and the Exterminators add some fluffy heavy weapons and heavy armor to the list. I used the Exterminator purely because it was the variant we used to have access too but there's no real reason you couldn't use whatever variant you want, including the Executioner with its ridiculous five plasma cannon shots a turn or whatever else you want. Frater Cornelius
May I suggest the setup I used with the 5ed SW codex? It was SW with the Armoured Battleground (Forge World). You know, that IG army that has Leman Russ as troops choice and an absolute killer HQ Vanquisher that easily gives Pask Punisher a run for his money? I used to run it like them like this: Allied Detachment HQ (1) Leman Russ Command Vanquisher • Artificers Hull • Beast Slayer Shells (it's an alternate firing mode for the Vanquisher Cannon, that shoots an S8 AP2 or 3 (can't remember) small blast with the Instant Death special rule. This means he can handle tanks with the regular shot AND MC with the Beast Slayer shot and has a decent chance to cripple either with a single shot) Troops (2) Leman Russ Battle Tank Leman Russ Exterminator Sometimes I exchanged the Exterminator for a Commissar Leman Russ with Incendiary Shells (Large Blast, S6 AP4, Ignores Cover) in the Elite Slot. That way I had some heavy backfield units and did not have to bother with squishy IG troops. Rift Blade
Yea, we have a tread head here in my gaming group who loves his Guard. He has the Forge World book with all the Imperial Guard stuff in it as well as the Armoured Co list. Nasty but fun to play against. BT_Cennar
I love using my Aett Guard. I miss tanks and artys but they make great home objective holders. Cheap and lots ob bodys. Had a bad quality photo on my phone i wanted to share. Used Cadian Bodys with wolfscout heads and gave every guardsman a token of honor from the wolfs. in form of Space Wolf combat knifes.. Hope one can see. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297539-space-wolf-imperial-guard-army/#findComment-3826399 Share on other sites
