well hello,

It seems an eternity since my last proper thread. and it's about time I began one. the purpose of this topic is purely force planning and idea spit-balling. as the biggest proponent of the help me choose faction and in the spirit of my (in)famous votes, I am totally open to suggestions. both in fluff and aesthetics.

With this in mind, here are some personal guidelines I am forcing on myself;

1. No loyalist sentiments......this will be the hardest for me to do. I always play good guys. time for a change.

2. confusion and bitterness, this is more of a fluffy thing. but I want a sense of regret and bitterness concerning the corruption within.

3. Grime and punishment, I have a really strong artistic vision for these guys I (along with others on the community legion thread) have decided that this will be pre/post Istvaan force and the newer members will have more pristine armour as they are replacements for attrition losses. I will also be adding some MK5/6 armours just because I really want to see DG in corvus armour(imagine it......bone white beakies!)

as for the troop types. well this will primarily be a foot slogger/trench fighter army at the start. but, I really want some artillery and air support in there as well.

as many of you know, I am pretty fluid in my hobby approach. so, if anyone has any Ideas let me know.

might even get a vote or two in!msn-wink.gif

Mmmmmmm! Beakies! wub.png

it should be noted that I intend to focus more on the death aspect than the gross aspect.

Perhaps a skeletal motif for the armour (not Legion of the Damned style, but something that has a similar flavour)? Or perhaps HQ/Sergeants have skull helms?

I'm quite interested in which way you go in the end smile.png

Hey wow, LotD flavour.....that's crazy awesome. Skull helmets......oh yes please. And hoods, gotta have hoods ( take that DORK ANGELS!)

Another idea I had was having all my grave wardens bare headed and using their helmsite for leadership.......maybe?

Perhaps the helms denote that the wearer is...blessed? (as in they're showing great signs of corruption, or perhaps that their heads are actual skulls?)

this is starting to feel like an old friends reunion, just missing jaspcat, honda, BCK, Heinrich, heathens, grot, and Capt semper.....thanks guys.

If you were to give them any form of cloth on their armor, I'd make it look burnt-off, washed out, torn to shreds, rad burned, etc. the whole gambit. You name it. Make it look like a blanket thats more likely to kill than keep warm.

Hardcore.

this......1000 times this.

consider that my all time favorite suggestion.....and an official part of my army.

ok, I screwed up after thinking, why LotD? then I re-read your post, damn I'm dumb! but yead a little bit of a cemetery theme would do nicely(now where did I put my Star Phantoms.......)

and the actual skulls.....maybe for the ones that are super-blessed by nurgle....down the road. seems doable.

I also started Death Guard and found out something which you probably will like. Here is link http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=1125 I am going to use them on some of my miniatures. They just look too awesome to not use them smile.png

I am usually against SCIBOR products as a matter of taste, but those are kinda nice......now about the darn crosses on them.......

oh and a quick question, has anyone had any experience with GW's rust effect paint? any good? or should I stick to Weathering powders?

where the hell is Jaspcat anyways?

As for Jasp, last I heard he works Night Shifts :( Also, that whole bit about an elderly lady ramming her car into his house...yeah..

(I could be totally wrong btw)

Also, glad you liked the suggestion :tu: Maybe I also have some DG in me...*slaps self* *inner monologue : "NO! ONE LEGION AT A TIME! YOU HAVE THIS ALL PLANNED OUT!"*

Literally part of the ship or figuratively?

Also, what is the consistency of the punch and pie? If the liquid is near-glue/paste and looks to be alive (same with the pie), I maaaay have to pass :P

Also, I'm a Fist first and foremost! With my signature showing my secondary allegiance. Maybe after I get through my long and convoluted (not to mention very expensive) path of 30k, maybe DG will be up there. Maybe.

(path is IF->WE or RG -> RG or WE (depending on which I do first) -> NL (if no TS) -> TS -> Custodes + SoS (or NL if not out by the time I do TS). Anything after that is up in the air.)

part of the crew.....

seriously, DG have fists too(two to be exact!)

I was going to do Fists, but there are a ton of fists on the boards right now. and I am really attempting to divorce myself from the Imperial Creed Lie.

but still, the Black Templar in me howls for the blood of the unclean.........(no chris, not another project....not yet)

You rang??

But seriously, I smiled to myself when I saw your name on the "New Topics" widget-thingy on the home page. It's great to see you're still with the Death Guard. When last we talked, FW was yet to release Mortarion, you must be super keen to get a hold of that piece of eye candy, right? I'm pretty keen to pick one up, fingers crossed for xmas for me.

A for ideas for the army, there is that one mkVI LotD beaky that would bad-as in the DG scheme. For me DG armies *need* at least one unit of Destroyers, but I'd love to see a mkIII Destroyer squad, mkIV just doesn't seem right for the DG (in my blinkered opinion ;) )

Cheers,

Jono

I was just looking for that exact beakie on ebay. yepo, MKIII destroyers seems to be the way to go.....but wait, what about those beautiful frikkin breacher MKIII armour/helmets. seems rad/chem weapons would necessitate some extra coverage.

and the Mortarion mini is, IMO, the best one to date.

damn good to hear from you as well man.

chris

Looking forward to this dude, really looking forward to this.

thanks man, I have enjoying the crap out of your wip thread.

on to other things;

well I have decided to actually do the crossed scythes scratched into the paint. just seems to fit the DG aesthetic better than a painted logo. and it will push my patience with detail work to boot.

with the ragged, rad-burned, phosphex dissolved fabric, I am going to use Brother Chaplain Kage's immensely excellent method of using tissue/paper towle for cloaks and such.(heck, I can actually burn it with a soldering iron, like for real!)

now, an idea I had was to use fabric wrappings to help contain corruption outbreaks. think less egyptian mummy and more leprosy mitigation.

watcha think?

How would that translate visually on Power Armored Astartes? Bandaged Bare Heads or Wrapped up Armor? Because wrapping up armor in cloth doesn't seem to make much sense to me...

Using a Lead-laden* Cloak to prevent radiation exposure, however, does.

*Insert futurey and suitably 30k rad-resistant here.

Centurion Malagant stood at the head of his assembled troops. Sullen eyed, rugged, every bit the scion of Barabas that he was. let the other legions stand on their laurels in their gawdy, ornate armour. He was a warrior, and he looked the part.

Turning to face his men, his chest swelled with pride, all men of the Death Guard, all men of Barbarus. Not one one Terran born amongst them. "Alright lads" he bellowed, We are here at the command of Mortarion himself. I do not know what the mission is or who we are about to crush. but we are here and we are not leaving until we are complete."

The return shout was deafening. again, pride.

"See how the enemy hides, they will all di........" Malagant spun with a lurch at the sound that interrupted the oratory with a boom.

was it a roar? an explosion?

It was a thing. Bloated, writhing and enormous. without warning it's maw opened and spewed forth all manner of corruption.........

to be continued.

so here is the beginning of my fluff. as can be gleaned it begins sometime after my force culled it's ranks of the Terran weaklings during the Istvaan Massacre. there will be more. and future fluff will feature flashbacks before Istvaan. but I am setting a tone for the army and how the corruption of nurgle effects these particular Barbarans. More of the death aspect and less of the gross slimy stuff.

prime.

I LIKE IT! :D

For weathering, I would take a look at Atia's excellent Death Guards in the WIP section. That lady can do rust and corrosion like nobody else...

I like the "undead" angle. I would start by looking at some photos of WWI soldiers (since you want to go with that brutal, trench-fighting angle) who had been in action for a while. Damaged armor, tattered cloaks, bandaged flesh. Some mud on their boots can't hurt either.

Good luck! I will be following your progress.
