Trying to decide on a basing scheme...

Whereas my Red Scorpions are weathered according to their basing (dry, dusty desert) I'd prefer the Minotaurs I've just started to stay clean and shiny. I'm struggling to decide on a suitable basing scheme that will achieve the following;

Quick and easy to do

Effective ie looks good

Allows for a contrast between the base and the clean bronze of the models

Any help, please.

If you have thin pieces of slate, you could mount them on the rocks. And to pick up on the above, you can also get sheets of molded tiles or stone roadways like they are standing on a very old roadway paved with stones or blocks.

Thanks all.

I had kinda thought about a dark coloured scheme to contrast with the models but that's a major shift in aesthetics for me as I'm still a Graveyard Earth for the base edges painter. I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet and try a couple of schemes. My first tac squad is just about finished so pics to follow soon(ish).

I'm planning to have one of my armies standing on ice.

Not snow, but painting the base blue, then putting a layer of clear-ish plastic over it.

Another army is standing on mosquito netting - probably going to paint those bases Tin Bitz, but black would probably work better for a lighter/metallic figure.

Getting a nice complimentary color for Bronze can be tough. I like the idea for urban rubble because you can paint the same basic base in wildly varrying shades.

If you have not picked a base yet, you might give this a shot.

Make an Urban Rubble base (a.k.a. sprue chips, kitty litter, wood chips or small rocks and dirt)

Base coat with Kantor Blue

Drybrush and highlight with Fenrisian Grey.

Heavy wash with Biel-tan Green.

Very light drybrush of Fenrisian Grey.

What you are going for is a dark teal color with cyan hints. With a bronze model on top, it should almost look like shades of gray. You can even paint the base's beveled edge Graveyard Earth. msn-wink.gif

If you're talking a darker base to contrast to a brighter bronze metal tone, you can try out my method of basing if ya want!

Cork in general is one of the better substances for basing in my opinion smile.png Really easy to deal with: break it up for your base, basecoat it, drybrush it a couple times (I really like a bright drybrush to bring out the hard edges), done! Just make sure to pin your models in so they're nice and secure smile.png
