Everon
So after a recent Tourney I got my butt handed to me in the semifinals I was researching options for GK Lords of War and found a few. Draigo Thunderhawk Thunderhawk Gunship Marauder Bomber Maruader Destroyer Warhound Draigo I used before but compared to what I have to face with him is just ridiculous. Got lucky vs a transcedent vault but a lynx or baneblade.... yeeeaaahh no. So what would you use or think is best and why? Pros and cons of each? IndigoJack
Probably the one you didn't list; the warhound titan with two turbo lasers. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297589-low-options/#findComment-3825485 Share on other sites
Everon
Isnt that for apocalypse only? And for what? Well over 1k points dont think thatll fit well in a 2k-3k point game. So didn't mention it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297589-low-options/#findComment-3825489 Share on other sites
IndigoJack
FW has a FAQ on their website on which units are allowed for escalation. Also, point-wise, it's priced competitively with the revenant Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297589-low-options/#findComment-3825512 Share on other sites
Everon
Oh? Interesting. Then in that case I shall edit it on the list. Thanks. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297589-low-options/#findComment-3825514 Share on other sites
Hidicul
Imperial knight with the melts cannon? Easier on points probably and on the wallet for sure. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297589-low-options/#findComment-3825533 Share on other sites
Everon
Compared to the thunderhawk and warhound yes. Less shots and hullpoints compared to marauder thunderhawk and warhound. Though the ik isnt a low I use em often. He rarely make it past turn 1 and if he does doesnt do much impact sadly. Was thinking if none of them are much good I got 3 iks ill just try to fit more then 1 in per game. Reclusiarch Darius
The Warhound with double turbo-laser and two VSG's with 3x shields each. Take double NSF to unlock the extra Fortification slot, or take Allies. Either way, that Warhound will refuse to die, and pump out Destroyer blasts all day until the enemy give up. jeffersonian000
You forgot the FW Knights, that's 4 more LoW choices (if you only take one, and no other Knights). Reclusiarch Darius
Nah, only if you're noob. Take an Allied detachment of Knights instead, you can technically take one of each FW variant so long as you have a token Paladin/Errant in the force (the 'no more variant than regular' rule isn't exclusive). Frater Cornelius
I faced a Baneblade once with my SW. It died turn 2 after glancing a few Rhinos. I had a buddy facing a Warhound AND a Baneblade with his IG, they got smoked turn 2 and 4 respectively with the majority of the IG force in tact. You get the idea. Investing so many points into something that most armies laugh at is not a good idea in a competitive setting. Gotta second RD, take Knights. They are reasonably prices and still perform excellently. I have seen quite a few dual Knight lists and they did really well. Alterntively, you can look at Gerantius. Granted, at the cost of 25 strikers you are getting into BB territory, but he is a boss. Look up his rules, it's in the WD issue 24. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297589-low-options/#findComment-3826387 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
If I had a Knight, I'd be tempted to run Gerantius with Mordrak and Ghost Knights. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297589-low-options/#findComment-3826459 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
I was actually considering him in my TWC list as opposed to the GK detachment. Too bad most tournament do not allow him (which I can sort of understand, he makes a Baneblade look like an amateur school boy if you know how to handle him). Ushtarador
Whatever you do don't take a thunderhawk, it's a real paper airplane :/ Also, you will never fit a suitable base on a regular gaming table :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297589-low-options/#findComment-3826501 Share on other sites
Ishagu
Well... The transcendent C'tan is an escalation Lord of War... You don't have to agree to play Escalation! Reclusiarch Darius
I faced a Baneblade once with my SW. It died turn 2 after glancing a few Rhinos. I had a buddy facing a Warhound AND a Baneblade with his IG, they got smoked turn 2 and 4 respectively with the majority of the IG force in tact. Baneblades haven't been good for a long time. Ever since Knight-Titans became a thing most super-heavies just don't match up by comparison (because Knight-Titans not only rek at range, they have Destroyer melee and a lot of mobility). Warhounds by themselves aren't so bad, its when you layer them in Void Shield Generators that they become obnoxious (you end up with something like 12x AV12 ablative layers to strip before you even hit the Warhound itself). IG I'm not surprised took them apart, their firepower is matched only by Eldar and Tau. I was actually considering him in my TWC list as opposed to the GK detachment. Too bad most tournament do not allow him (which I can sort of understand, he makes a Baneblade look like an amateur school boy if you know how to handle him). Yeah he's a little absurd, even for 500pts. Just take the Adamantine Lance formation instead ;) a few extra points and you basically get three Gerantius's.
