Hey folks,

this is a part of the show where you vote and decide what I build. I have built the hull of my Baneblade / Hellhammer, and magnetized the main turret to accommodate either main gun, but the problem now is how do I build the sponsons. From what I can tell, I can do either the TL Heavy Bolter or the TL Heavy Flamer. It doesn't appear that they will be easily convertible... so I need to pick. Will I build the Baneblade or the Hellhammer?

On a side note, I have 4 sponsons, so I COULD actually build 2 of each, but hey, that's too easy. I want my Superheavy to have 4 sponsons...

Pros and Cons to both variants. I like the Baneblade model, but they are common (ish). The Hellhammer isn't seen very often and I like the "come and get it" aspect of it... they you fry faces.

Cast your vote now... I'll leave this open until the weekend.

Thanks!

You can do both, so keep it as both!

I built a Baneblade for my DA for apocalypse, but changed the main cannon to include the 'Hellhammer' end, as I liked the look of it better. The Baneblade is a great all rounder, but the Hellhammer main gun ignores cover! I was delighted when I realised both the Baneblade and Hellhammer can have the same loadout. You would find the heavy bolters more useful than heavy flamers surely?

And...

In the Pandorax warzone supplement, there is a special Hellhammer variant 'Traitor's Bane', which has stealth and against fliers also gets shrouded!!!

So, my story is simple. I made a Baneblade (which I'm very happy with) for the looks and general purpose loadout, but in a terrain heavy/city of death board, the Hellhammer variant Traitors Bane with ignores cover and stealth is nasty.

I've added a poll - including an extra option ;) The ideal solution would be to magnetise the kit, even if this meant getting additional sponsons so you don't fiddle around with them. You could just drop them on or off the model, maybe not even needing a magnet for it! If that is too much work and cost I'd say Hellhammer to make it stand out like you want.

The Baneblade is nice and the classic of course, but it's basically a Russ scaled up for Apocalypse :P

I had a quick look at the sponsons last weekend and the location on the model (front, middle or rear) is not a problem. The tricky bit will be making the weapons swappable.

I will need to give it some thought after my hellhounds are done.

The main gun is simple to magnetise.

I think that's the best way to have your cake and eat it, possibly the only way. The nature of the sponsons means it'll be easy to swap them out. You'd just need to magnetise the side plates and sponsons and you'd be done, it's mostly a matter of the expense of the additional upgrade sprue. It'd also let you forward mount the Hellhammer sponsons and rear mount the Baneblade ones.

Just a question of curiosity... In the first version of Apoc, The Hellhammer can only take Flamer Sponsons. Is this true in the newest edition of Apocalypse? I don't own the book yet (booo, hiss) as I prefer to spend on models. I've seen conflicting reports online that you can now take either  or the Heavy Bolter or Heavy Flamer Sponsons.  I will be getting the book, just not in the next month or so.

Can anyone simply clarify this?

If you're using it for apocalypse games on a huge board, then go for the baneblade as the extra range is great. Otherwise go for the Hellhammer as ignores cover really helps to put the damage in. With the Baneblade, you'll often find your opponent spreads out a lot so you can only hit 1/2 units anyway and they'll stick to cover meaning half the time that main gun does little or no damage at all.

I took a baby step today and opened the box ph34r.png

I think I have worked out how to make the sponson weapons swappable but I will slowly work on a complete guide rather than jumping the gun with bits and pieces.

This will be a labour to make everything magnetised but who doesn't want a Baneblade / Doom Hammer / Banehammer / Banesword / Hellhammer / Shadowsword / Stormlord and Stormsword in one kit ;)

Magnetizing the sponsons and weapons may not be that difficult in the end... for those with experience with magnets. I'll put up some pics in the next day or 2 with my thoughts. For now, I built 2 sponsons with Heavy Flamer and 2 with Heavy Bolter. I can run the Hellhammer with 4 sponsons, 2 sponsons or the Baneblade with 2 Sponsons.
