Unbound at 500 point games?

I think it depends on the attitude of both opponents and any gentlemans agreement that they have in place regarding composition. Is it truly anything goes, or just for fluff. Where all Devastators to represent 9th company could be considered a fluffy army list, but say 15 riptides would be more anything goes.

In regards to the points limit, I think you are more prepared to deal with anything goes lists at higher points levels.

For example. You can have that guy who brings 2-3 riptides in a 500 point list vs your two tactical squads and a chaplain, say. But in a 1500 point list, you would have maybe lascannons or lots of power weapons to attempt to deal with them better than 20 bolters and a power maul.

If it's to avoid the "HQ tax" imposed by battle forged lists, I guess unbound can work well at low points lists, particularly for people starting out, who have only gotten the battleforce box, say. In the end it's a matter for you and your opponents to sit down and discuss prior to your game, if you think it's a big deal.

Hope this helps

Unbound is probably going to be more competitive at 500 points, when it comes to killing things at least.

Your typical 500 point battle-forged list is going to struggle to include much more than the mandatory HQ+2 troop choices, which can be boring.

As Dallo points out though, at 500 points you will come across instances where one army simply does not have the tools to deal with the other, especially if someone doesn't factor in the possibilities in unbound lists when they make their own.
