zebbie
So after a long hiatus I am back in the hobby, and I have looked at my old stuff and am no longer pleased with the paint jobs, the units I have in my case (painted to battlefield standard) seem not to be effected, but the ones that weren't (they were WIP) seem to have gone a horrible brown colour (from red). Do I strip it back, or try to resurrect them? Opinions? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297812-decisions-decisions/ Share on other sites
Chaeron
Strip and restart - you'll feel better for it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297812-decisions-decisions/#findComment-3829987 Share on other sites
Brother Dallo
I'd also second stripping them and starting over, though maybe keep one for nostalgia or take some photos. zebbie
I still love the scheme though, any advice on the stripping process? They are mostly plastic with a few metals mixed in. Phantomzero17
Simple Green and a tub/bucket. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297812-decisions-decisions/#findComment-3830295 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
Yeah, Simple Green. Basically you take an old re-sealable container (an old ice cream tube is perfect) and completely submerge any model you'd like to strip in undiluted Simple Green for about 24hrs. Then you take a stiff bristle tooth brush and scrub the paint off. Some models may need a second bath, and be sure to rinse and dry the models prior to repainting. zebbie
When you say simple green, I assume you mean the all purpose stuff? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297812-decisions-decisions/#findComment-3830504 Share on other sites

Brother Dallo
I can't comment on the price or usefulness of simple green, but I personally use ascetone free nail polish remover from a uk based store called super drug. It's cheap, quick and reliable. A few minutes and a scrub with an old toothbrush will get most of the paint off. It has to be said, it works much better for overzealous thick layers of paint that you'd typically see for new painters, as the paint just peels off in one big layer. Not so useful for lots of thin layers. If you are using it, avoid leaving models in it for excessive time periods (read a week) as I did. It slightly deformed the plastic and melted some of the details. Hope this helps Dallo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297812-decisions-decisions/#findComment-3830664 Share on other sites
zebbie
I just checked availability of simple green from my local stores (via their websites) apparently, I can only get the all purpose one from Bunnings on a 20L drum. I will probably make my way over th ere as I have previously found items in store that have not been online. Wish me luck Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297812-decisions-decisions/#findComment-3831407 Share on other sites
