Fallen11
Do you have any recommendations for some good audio novels? I listened talon of horus, and enjoined it very much. Then prospero burns, almost half of the novel was quite boring and main character kinda irritating, but later it became good. Templar was short and good, nice audio effects! One about karn, so so, voices were kinda meh, and after it I really don't know how khorne followers are not extinct, lol, since it seems that they would all kill them self among quite fast :DSo I am looking for good story! And if possible some sound effects like in templar, and wouldn't hurt if character voices are good. I didn't think that I would like audio novels so much, but they are perfect, since I daily spend at least 2 hours travelling in bus to work and back... Any recommendations? Tnx! Castellan Blackmane
The Garro audio books are exceptional. Although I would read(or listen to if you like) the first 4 heresy books first. Also the audio book "Malediction" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297826-good-audio-novels/#findComment-3830260 Share on other sites
Chandrian
Agreed 40k Audio Books while traveling to work are great :P. Mortarion's Heart (GK) is pretty good! leaves you with a lot of questions and a thirst for answers!Throne of Lies (Chaos Night Lords), is in between book 1 and 2 of ABD's Night Lords Trilogy. Death Wolf (SW) Short but Sweet SW fighting Dark Eldar! Perfection (Chaos Emperors Children) not my favorite Audiobook but who am i to speak for others :P. Blood Spire (BA) 2 part Audio book dealing with the Blood Ravens... i think... wasn't a big fan of this one either :P. hope this helps and you enjoy at least 1 LOL Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297826-good-audio-novels/#findComment-3830274 Share on other sites
Deus Imperator Vult
I couldn't agree more on Mortarians Heart that was such an amazing read/listen. Personally I would recommend anything with Khârn in; Butchers Nails, Chosen of Khorne, Trials of Azreal, he even makes an appearance in Templar. All of these are great stories in their own right but GW has done such a good job with marrying his voice to his character that I now read him in that accent. Both Trials of Azreal and The ascension of Balthasar I would call essential for any fan of the Dark Angels. Veil of Darkness, The Stromark Massacre, The Shape of the Hunt and the HH; Honour to the Dead are also all enjoyable. The Flesh Tearers also give quite a good showing in Blood in the Machine. Jareddm
The newest release, Parting of the Ways, is absolutely fantastic. Certainly stands among the top audios I've listened to. SteelPaladin
Honour to the Dead was fantastic. Its about titans duking it out on Calth. The sound effects in this one are especially well done. Butchers Nails is one of the best, once you get past Angrons voice anyways... I'm used to it now, but it just did not mesh with what I had pictured before. Outside of the Horus Heresy, I would definitely recommend the Eisenhorn audios, provided that you have read the Eisenhorn and Ravenor series. Thorn and Talon is the audio collection I believe. It is a collection of 3 stories from different parts of Eisenhorns career. There are tons more, but these would be my top picks. Veteran Sergeant
I didn't want to start a whole new topic just for this, so this thread seemed appropriate. This has to be one of the most hilariously bad 40K art pieces published in a while. :D http://www.blacklibrary.com/Images/Product/DefaultBL/xlarge/audio-accept-no-failure.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297826-good-audio-novels/#findComment-3839637 Share on other sites
Never_born
I'd have to agree with Jareddm, in that Parting of the Ways is excellent. In fact, barring some slightly dubious artwork as highlighted by Veteran Sergeant, the whole Echoes of War audio collection is worth a listen. If you're interested have a look here for some thoughts on the collection, and a little about each piece. Happy listening! SteelPaladin
Parting of the Ways was surprisingly good. Chris Wraight sure does know how to write about the Wolves. One very nitpicky complaint - the howling does not sound anything like I imagined. Other than that, its a fantastic audio. Tymell
Butchers Nails is one of the best, once you get past Angrons voice anyways... I'm used to it now, but it just did not mesh with what I had pictured before. Angrons voice was a little off but they absolutly nailed Khârn, Lotara Sarrin, and Argel Tal. 100% agreed on this one. Angron wasn't quite deep and booming enough for me (though it wasn't awful either), but I absolutely love the voices for Khârn, Lotara and Argel Tal. Of those I've heard, Honour to the Dead, Butcher's Nails, Garro: Burden of Duty and The Sigillite were all good. Burden of Duty especially for Imperial Fists fans. Wolf Hunt was good too, but probably only for those who've read The Outcast Dead. Also, if you're up for shorts, Khârn: The Eightfold Path follows very well on from Betrayer, and Warmaster is probably the best portrayal of Horus himself I've seen in the whole HH series. I'm also half-way through Parting of the Ways, and enjoying that so far. Jareddm
I'd argue Wolf Hunt is mandatory for those who've read Outcast Dead, given the problem it fixes :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297826-good-audio-novels/#findComment-3842856 Share on other sites
Tymell
I'd argue Wolf Hunt is mandatory for those who've read Outcast Dead, given the problem it fixes Eh, I'd say it more "attempts" to fix it than actually does so, but that aside I did enjoy it ;) Especially Severian's stealthy/tactical moments. Deus Imperator Vult
I'd argue Wolf Hunt is mandatory for those who've read Outcast Dead, given the problem it fixes Really!? I think you'd need more than 40 minutes to fix one of the worst heresy books to date haha but I may have to give this a look if so. Jareddm
"Problem" as in singular. The one that everyone always complains about. I know the rest of the book isn't that great regardless. Never_born
Master of the First was pretty interesting. Not so much action, but plenty of twisty Dark Angels intrigue. http://trackofwords.wordpress.com/2014/11/13/master-of-the-first-gav-thorpe-audio-drama/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297826-good-audio-novels/#findComment-3862319 Share on other sites
