Well, what a weekend!

Was well worth the 3 hour drive, a great event run by a great bunch of guys.

I went with a 3-3 record for the weekend, which was good enough to win me the "Renaissance Man" award.  The Renaissance man is the player who scores the highest in Battle, Paint, and Sports with all three categories being weighed equally.

Along with the nice trophy, I got that Titan, and a 50 dollar voucher for the Warstore!

Ill post more details later, after I get some rest.

Thanks guys!

Believe it  or not, the list did not perform poorly at all, only 1 game, did I really feel like I had no shot at all, and he went on to win over-all I believe.

next, I'll post some short batreps, and note changes I plan on making to this particular list....

Nice work Littlbitz!! Certainly Russ himself smiles upon you!!

What a great looking list!! Too me, it is a great compromise between competitive and fluff. Obviously higher on the competitive side!! The Jump Guard and TH/SS TWC really make me smile, and I bet that both packs can soak up a lot of Tau/Eldar fire!!\

Bravo!!

End of Line

Eldar and Tau fire mainly consist of S6/7 AP4 or worse.

thanks for all the comments guys!

I know that the Jump Pack Wolf Guard were a bit of a point sink going into the Tournament, but they fit with my idea of "smashing stuff" all weekend.  And I thought they looked cool to boot.

I knew there were some weaknesses with the list, mainly no anti- Psyker ability, and very shooty armies I figured would give me fits.

Game 1 was against the latter, a Tau (Farsight)-Legion of the Damned list.  His list consisted of 3 SkyRays, 3 Rip Tides, a Squadron of 5 Piranha, a commander in a suit, and an assortment of suits with missile pods.  His Legion of the Damned were 3x deep striking units with Melta, Multi-Melta and a Combi-Grav.

I had first turn, and decided I needed to go for broke, I dropped my Pod with Dread into postion to take out a single battle suit unit for the quick first blood point, and rushed my Thunder Wolves and Jump Packs into his lines, holding a Mealstrom objective with the Grey Hunters.

Over the course of the game, his firepower proved to be too much.  My opponent mentioned that I failed an unusual amount of saves, but that is his army design, its sheer volume, force me to roll dice and I'll fail eventually.
I do feel it was a great fight though.
He wisely used his Piranha squadron to screen his Riptides, keeping me from getting to grips with them, and it was that speed bump which allowed him to lay down that firepower.

My Blood Claws performed very well, unloading out of the Storm Wolf in Turn 3 and took out 2 Skyrays, My Terminators destroyed the 3rd and a Group of Battlesuits, and several leadership checks were forced on his suit commander when he joined up with the disembarked Piranha gun drones.

I took a loss 9-2, not a great start but I do believe he went on to win over-all so I can't complain

Well, I went into game 2 figuring I got that out of the way, then hit happened, the other counter to my army.
The Screamer Star...
Fate Weaver, Herald on a Disk (lvl 3, Exalted Reward), Herald on a Disk (Lvl3, Exalted Reward), Herald on a Disk (lvl3, focus of Conj)
11 Horrors, 11 Horrors, 3x Nurglings, 9 Screamers, 15 Flesh Hounds, Belakor, 3x Nurglings

I loathe this army, the 2+ rerollable is just ridiculous and no fun to play against.  However, I did my best to make it a good game.  Truthfully I should have won, but I made a rookie mistake (the beer was flowing pretty freely).
I allowed all my Thunderwolves to get bogged down in the combat with the Screamers and Heralds.  I should have broke off the battle leader and Iron Priest, and I could have hit some of his smaller units with them.

As it was a kill point mission for the Primary, I got stuck...  It was also frustrating to take Fate Weaver and Belakor both down to 1 wound, and just couldnt strip that last one!!! oh well.

Game 2, and I took another loss, things were not looking good for the Wolves.

Game 3, was against another Daemon Army this Time Nurgle, he had 2 Soul Grinders and an assortment of other Nurgle nastiness.
The details of this game I admit are a little fuzzy.  Lol, suffice it to say a great time was had by both of us, and my Thunder Hammers proved to be too much for the Forces of Nurgle to handle, and the diseases ones were sent back to the Warp to lick their wounds...

Finished Day 1 with 1 win and 2 losses, not great.  Match ups were not the best for me, but hey it happens.

Day 2 my first game was to be against a pure Grey Knight army
Crowe, Strike Squad, Purifier Squad, Paladins, Interceptors, Storm Raven, Purgation Squad, DreadKnight, Librarian.

Hammer and Anvil deployment.

In this game, my opponent made a critical error.  turn one he deep struck his Paladins behind me in my lines, cast all those nasty upgrade spells anticipating hitting my lines.
Then in my turn I left...
My Thunderwolves headed across the board and smashed into the rest of his army systimatically taking everything out except his paladins which were left footslogging it trying to catch up...

Win 2 for the Space Wolves

Game 5 was against Orks,
Warboss on bike with Orky stuff, Big Mek with Force Field, Bike and Orky stuff, Painboy on a bike, 20 'ard boys, 20 'ard boys, grots, Mega-nobs, Biker Nobz unit, more Warbikes, 3x Battle Wagons.
Oh the poor Orks, these guys brought a Choppa to a Thunder Hammer fight, I hit his lines like a ton of bricks with everything, and swung something in the neighborhood of 35 Thunder Hammer Attacks, it was ugly, the Orks were tabled...

As this is a Nova Format Tournament, I was bracketed in day 2, so with 2 wins
under my belt I went into game 3 fighting for the Bracket win.

Game 6 (I do love the 6 game format, I always feel like 5 just isnt enough for me...) was against a White Scar-Space Wolf list.  Now, I'm a bit of a purist, so I don't like this list.  I dont have a copy here, but it roughly had
Khan, a biker command with goodies, 4x biker squads with melta/grav, 3 or 4 Iron Priests on Thunder Wolves, and a couple other things, Im not too sure.
I made a bit of a mistake in this game, I hit him with a 1-2 punch, sending in my Jump packers against his "DeathStar" unit while my Thunder Wolves went about taking out a couple minor targets.  Had I just said the Heck with it and hit with everything at once, It would have tipped the combat into my favor.
It was a hard fought battle, but at the end of the day, he won the Primary, and I won the Secondary.  Game ended 7-5

Im still getting used to 7th edition, but I don't feel a 3-3 record is too bad.
The Scoring system they use is quite interesting.  They have 3 main awards, they score everyone 3 different ways to award different play styles and the different ways people enjoy the hobby.
The Over-all winner I think is 75% battle and the other 25% is between paint and Sportsmanship
The Paint Master is 75% paint with battle and Sportsmanship being the other 25%
The Renaissance man is equal scoring across Battle Points, Paint, and Sportsmanship

The Battle Points I earned combined with my Sportsmanship and my High Paint score was enough to win me the Ren-man award.  Which I was quite pleased with. (and unexpected, I fully thought in my head I wouldve needed a 4th win)

So, more changes to my list are coming.
The Mechanicon is in 2 weeks, so I have a lot of painting to do.  Hopefully I can get it painted in time, otherwise I'll have to tweak my plans a little.

Here are my thoughts...

WGBL on TWM with Runic Armor (I want that 2+ save), Frost Axe, Storm Shield
TWC x4 with 4x Thunder Hammers and 3x Storm Shields

Iron Priest on TWM
TWC x4 with 3x Thunder Hammers and 4x Storm Shields

Ven-Dread with Axe and Shield in a Pod

Ven-Dread with Axe and Shield in a Pod

Grey Hunters x5 with MG in a Pod

Grey Hunters x5 with a Razorback with Twin-Linked Lascannon

Culexus Assassin

Storm Wolf with MM sponsons (FA choice for the Assassin)

Great stuff littlbitz!

One suggestion I would make is to consider a Drop Pod rather than Stormwolf for Culexus. If your opponent has a psyker with a buff that needs disabling, the pod can get you there immediately. If they don't have a psyker, then the Culexus becomes more of a distraction. An 18" infiltrate is sufficient to use the Animus turn 1 and provide an immediate threat to some unit.

The other benefits are more flexibility for drop pod assaults and freed up points for more supporting units

If you just want to field a Stormwolf that's cool too, because they are fun and awesome. :)

Brilliant Littlbitz.  Sounds like you had a blast.

Couple of questions for me.  Why the frost axe on the WGBL - the krakenbone sword is sooooo good and only slightly more expensive.  Squeezing in 15 more points for the Fellclaw Teeth is also worth it.  I take it you are using CoF with this list ... but you aren't taking advantage of the weapons.  (Not that I have anywhere NEAR your experience of course)

HDL

Honestly, the answer is simple HDL, That's what I currently have modelled, and I have lots to build and paint in just 2 weeks, just don't have the time.

My thoughts with the Assassin in the Storm Wolf was to keep him out of combat and just use his radius ability to shut down Psykers.  The way its been eplained to me is I would measure from the Storm Wolf while he is embarked and no Fire Point is needed for his raduis ability.

Though, I need it to come on early enough to take advantage of that, so some tweaking of tactics may be in order, im gonna practice some with it.

Very nice reading some of you tournament adventures. I do miss the old bike lists that you used to run, but in a format with this kind of boring, rediculus lists it's no wonder you moved away from them. WG with JPs are expensive, it seems. Have you considered bikes instead? Cheap and +1T =)

Thanks Nat!

And I cant seem to bring myself to take the assassin I was planning, I am pushing forward with some more TWC, and am going to make the move back to Swift Claw Bikers in support.

Still Working out the list, but the Bikes WILL be back for Mechanicon...
