Zembar
Playing devils advocate. If the paladins are weaker in CC than the terminators by not having the numbers, then why not increase the odds by spending some of those points you neglected to spend. The 30 points difference could get a few halberds, falchions or even hammers to bring the Pallys up to par with the GKT. Spent them on a banner. Let's pray to the Emperor that he doesn't get sniped! Same thing goes for the apothecary for that matter :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298044-mathhammer-paladin-v-gkt-analysis/page/2/#findComment-3836080 Share on other sites

Captain Coolpants
I think another thing we should look into, is purifiers. As most of the time, terminator armour is bypassed. Would we be better off going with the power armored equivalents? Other than our Mandatory troop choices of course. Â If the armour is bypassed, that just makes the 5++ even more valuable, and TDA brings other nice things, like relentless(aka usable psycannons), and purifiers can't deep strike. Â This is all off topic though, so feel free to start another thread :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298044-mathhammer-paladin-v-gkt-analysis/page/2/#findComment-3836107 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
Comparing Purifiers to Paladin? Or GKT?  10 Purifiers with 4 Psycannons (310 points).  Purifiers; 12 Storm Bolter shots, 16 Psycannon shots 20 CC attacks / 30 on the Charge.  We already know that Paladin (with an Apothecary) are *roughly* as durable as GKT. So I'll ignore ID.  How durable are GKT (and therefore Paladin) to Purifiers?  For AP - to 4, (4/7) GKT are 1/6th more durable. For AP3 (1/7) they are 5/6 more. For AP 2 to 1 (2/7) they are 1/3 more durable.  This works out to be very roughly, on average, about a 33% increased durability.   GKT are about 20% more expensive, have slighty more Storm Bolter shots, half the Psycannon shots, and the same number of CC attacks. There are about 33% more durable.  Purifiers also have an addition 1 to 2 WCs over the GKT.  (This also ignores Salvo, assuming the Purifiers to be stationary) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298044-mathhammer-paladin-v-gkt-analysis/page/2/#findComment-3836109 Share on other sites
Zembar
1/6th more durable at ap -Â to 4? Don't you mean twice as durable? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298044-mathhammer-paladin-v-gkt-analysis/page/2/#findComment-3836122 Share on other sites

Captain Coolpants
Haha thanks! :P Â I just hate using nothing but terminators... And yeah we play for fun... But we also play with the intention of winning. I'd say both purifiers and interceptors are nice. A bit more situational than termies, but that's why termies are troops! Happy-inquisitor
Next thing to look at, would be adding a Banner to the Paladin. The Paladin have the points spare to afford one. Â Without looking at anything, gut reaction feels that a Banner, combined with WS5 across the whole range of opponent WS (including 9 and 10...) would yield a comparable number of CC attacks to a 10 man GKT squad. Â So for equal points the GKT only really have the follow over Paladin; Â Combat Squads 4 times the number of Storm Bolter shots Troop Battlefield Role While the paladins have:12" morale boost FNP and +1a on an attached IC Â If they spend the first few turns shooting at targets that need psycannon to take them out then it's actually a closer match than I expected. If we need hammer attacks to deal with MC then the GKT will need more to achieve the same number of hits, narrowing their advantage further. Â Edit: remembered the extra attack on any attached IC Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298044-mathhammer-paladin-v-gkt-analysis/page/2/#findComment-3836332 Share on other sites
Zembar
I'm being a bit facetious, but you're saying that paladins are a good boost for an attached librarian and nearby GKTs, right? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298044-mathhammer-paladin-v-gkt-analysis/page/2/#findComment-3836683 Share on other sites
