Lord Asvaldir
So with my IA13 book on the way, I'm going to delve into building a renegades army using the renegades&heretics list in IA13. I'm wondering though what the best models to use for the core guardsmen are. I've seen a lot of great examples online, but could still use some feedback. Here is what I've thought of so far: Use the renegades conversion set from FW. Very cool set, really like the gas masks look, I'm thinking I'd use Catachans or Cadians to convert into renegades. I've also seen some people use chaos marauders but given that means buying guns for them as well I doubt I'd use them. Using militarium temptus scions. Very cool models, however I worked out the price per model and it's actually more than option one. I'm defiantly learning towards using FW, but even using ebay to pick up a bunch of Cadians it's still not cheap, especially given I'd want say 40 or more. Anyone else know of some good alternatives? Chandrian
Lots of ideas here that could help you: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/294773-conversions-and-ideas-for-traitor-guard-and-the-am-codex/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298051-building-traitor-guardsmen/#findComment-3835439 Share on other sites
Noctem Cultor
It depends on what over all look you want. Personally I like the look of a Nurgle TG force as you have some great FW miniatures you can throw in plus you can mix in Death Korps Of Krieg and Steel Legion Bits (the price for a Steel Legion Squad is just a few pounds higher than a Cadian Squad). This way you have Gasmasks mixed in everywhere giving the Nurgle feel to the force. As for alternatives first id consider looking at ebay for bulk lots of Lasguns as they don't sell for much maybe £5 for 50 when ive looked as this will help give them a more official feel if not using GW Miniatures. If you buy a few Renegade Militia sets or bits to mix in too this will help. Dreamforge do some okay looking scifi troops http://www.wargamesfactory.com/webstore/dreamforge-games The Void Stuff on Scotia Grendel Website would work too http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=217_218_59_65 http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=217_218_59_64 If you get the chance id say try to grab some Necromuna Plastics from Ebay as they would blend in well to. Also remember to check out online retailers of GW that do around 25% off as this will help push costs down until you add FW bits. Lord Asvaldir
Those are some nice alternative models, however I'd like to stick with GW products as much as I can, at least initially. Steel legion is a good idea, I'll look into using them, and I do utilize online retailers fairly often. Do any happen to have FW products as well for a reduced price? Brother Ambroz
Orders a secondary licensed supplemental book. Wants to use primary models for second-standard force. Um okay? On topic, this thread should give ya some ideas for some traitors, many very well converted models in there. Here's another thread for parts. Most of them still work, I have myself used the Victorian Miniatures heads and these for heavy more militant traitors. Dark_Apostle_XVII
Pig Iron Productions has some pretty great heads that work brilliantly with GW's Cadians. I used them on a lot of my own troops for bulk gas masks that are cheaper than FW. Great to work with and would definitely recommend. Lord Asvaldir
Pig iron looks great. I'd really like to use Cadians but pig iron parts it would be incredibly cheap compared to FW. You have any pictures of how your pig iron guardsmen turned out? Victoria heads look pretty good as well. While not required, alternative torsos that look more chaos themed might also be useful if there are any good ones out there. Dark_Apostle_XVII
Of course mate, here you go: First up I use these heads on my Infantry Squads: http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/hd2-kolony-militia-head-sprues-p-13.html Here is the squad - as you'll see I used FW torsos to give my Sergeants a more corrupted look but the rest are Pig Iron. https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/122948524@N05/13979995811/ A few close ups: https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/122948524@N05/13897032216/ https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/122948524@N05/13960116916/ And my Conscripts using these heads with Flagellant bodies: http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/hd13-kolony-feral-head-sprues-p-17.html https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/122948524@N05/13851679804/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298051-building-traitor-guardsmen/#findComment-3839117 Share on other sites
Lord Asvaldir
Wow, those look great, and I won't have to sell my soul to FW in order to get a lot of traitor guardsmen. Thanks for sharing Dark Apostle, think I'm going to end up using those heads. Uprising
I personally love using pig Iron Heads. Here some of mine for my traitors http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a631/gwp1002/Chaos%2040k/DSCN0331_zps5b42dcec.jpg Now for conversions, It really depends on your guard back story. Are they dedicated to a guard? Do they answer to a Legion? Did they rebel because of something during a campaign? Recent Traitor or not? Once you pick a theme, it becomes a lot easier to decide on conversions. Lord Asvaldir
Very nice. I'm thinking for the most part recent traitors. The leaders/sergeants may have some mutations, but for the core troopers I imagine their armor will be mostly intact as I really like the Cadians. Gas masks is a must though, and they have pledged their loyalty to the Word Bearers. Dark_Apostle_XVII
That's alright :) glad you like. Would definitely recommend Pig Iron though. Sounds great, good to see another Word Bearers player too, that's what mine are themed for. Here is the log I had for them if you'll excuse the self promotion haha ;) http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/289558-traitor-guard/# Please help yourself to ideas and inspiration and get in touch if you have any questions about how I did any of it.
