irwit
TWC you are paying for high strength and rending. Adding over 50% to that point cost for higher strength and removing rending is not cost effective. I would personally go with 1 fist per unit and take an extra unit. Storm shield I think are ok, maybe drop a couple, they dont give you a better armour save vs ap3 and upwards so make best use of your standard 3+ save a bit more :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298085-preparing-for-mechanicon-gt/page/2/#findComment-3846485 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
With the current wording TWC has rending with every weapon they carry. FAQ did not change that. If anything, a Maul or Claws makes sense. I am running mine naked now. Works just fine. irwit
My point was more that paying for an ap2 weapon leaves little use for rending, not that it was lost. Personally, I see little use for any special weapons at all. irwit
Agreed, standard they are cheap as chips and hard are nuts. If you could get more than 3 units in a detachment i think thats all you would see. However those storm.shields are also dirt cheap so I see their value and a single fist has its place for vehicles and MCs so they do make the unit more versatile. All thunderhammers however I think actually make the unit worse. They have a good I value. Lots of attacks and high strength with rending. Shame to lose all that a pay a lot for the privilage. Hear da Lamentation
Storm shields are a must. 1 hit with a vindicator will take the lot out without SS Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298085-preparing-for-mechanicon-gt/page/2/#findComment-3847722 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
That is why you bring alpha strike so that does not happen. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298085-preparing-for-mechanicon-gt/page/2/#findComment-3847742 Share on other sites
Z00Z
You'd waste alpha strike against a vindicator threat? Id hope not... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298085-preparing-for-mechanicon-gt/page/2/#findComment-3847816 Share on other sites
Frater Cornelius
It is all about tactical advantage. If the vindicator is the biggest threat to my Cents and TWC, they will go. Z00Z
It is all about tactical advantage. If the vindicator is the biggest threat to my Cents and TWC, they will go. If your opponents list has the vindicator as the biggest threat, then the list is not a threat. My point being, if the only tool you have in your box is a hammer...you tend to see all the problems as a nail. This has been discussed at lengths on the merits of building a list in support of a unit, or having the list capable of multiple roles and functions. In this case, it would be much better to just drop a shield or two on the TWC in mitigation of a 24" large blast at 120 pts, than throwing in excess of 100+ pts of alpha against it. The point is, a well rounded unit would be better off standing on its own merits than building a glass cannon.
