Brom MKIV
Discussion time. If you had the chance to run a fire raptor in place of a storm raven would you do it? FragEmAll
million percent yes. it is my next planned purchase, even better now that they faq'd it to allow loyalists to have autocannons as well. I think it is a brilliant model with decent rules. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298141-relic-fire-raptor/#findComment-3837537 Share on other sites
Adeptus
No, I don't like the look of the model. Having said that, I never liked Stormravens either, to begin with. Brom MKIV
I personally love the model. Weaponry however I'm not sure is straight better than the stormraven, so I'm looking for input here. Zedrenael
I would run a Fire Raptor over a Stormraven anyday. More firepower and shoot 3 targets a turn. Who wouldn't Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298141-relic-fire-raptor/#findComment-3837621 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
The 3 targets a turn is sweet. Ordnance missiles suck though even with potms so the plane is geared towards anti infantry and light armour primarily. Not sure I need that over what the SR brings. But I WANT to need it! Reclusiarch Darius
Y'know what would be amazing? If we had a Fire Raptor variant geared with psycannons ;) On its own, the Fire Raptor is a nice gunship but we have to Ally to get access Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298141-relic-fire-raptor/#findComment-3837683 Share on other sites
Everon
We have to ally for well everything....except dreadknights. We got that covered. Tis a shame. They really do need to make more gk friendly things. They would have more of my money if the codex didnt consist of just of termies purifiers and dreadknights. Sure got the dreadnought a raven and lr but for point cost viability more then one at very most is just not. But if we could have one of theese, darn right I would take one Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298141-relic-fire-raptor/#findComment-3837705 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
I did email fw with a shout out for some gk love. They seem much more receptive to their fan base fwiw. raverrn
The Fire Raptor I feel is a bit of a downgrade to the Stormraven. That being said, it's a very, very pretty model and it does what it does (Popping light vehicles and 3+ saves) very well. If you don't put Purifiers in your Stormraven and find you have more trouble with Rhinos than Leman Russes, it can certainly be a boon. Reclusiarch Darius
The Raven also does a much better job stripping HP off things like Knight-Titans or high AV targets, due to twin lascannon and twin multi-melta. Being an Assault Ramp transport as well is a huge boon to our army, as it gets Purifiers into the fight (being just about the only useful unit we can't utilise 'Rites' with). Gentlemanloser
Vanessa? I prefer Shirley. ;) If you can take a 'Grey Knight' Fire Raptor, then you can include it in a NSF. At which point we have a Flier that can enter Deep Strike reserves (unlike the Raven) and potentially deploy turn 1, not turn 2. Something to consider if you're tossing up between a FR or a SR. If you're allying it in, then just go Space Wolf ones or Talons with Skyhammers. /shrug Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298141-relic-fire-raptor/#findComment-3838700 Share on other sites
Captain Coolpants
We need some cool fliers! To combat flying daemons... Dreadknight with jet engines anyone? That would be nice...but Jervis can't forge that narrative, so we lost Deepstrike on our only Flyer because that would be too much fun. As listed the Fire Raptor is only for weaker Marines and traitors. We're stuck with the Raven. We need some cool fliers! To combat flying daemons... Nah, what we need is Skyfire. Which had me thinking the other day... Attach a Red Hunter Librarian to some Purifiers (preferably in a bunker of some kind). Turn on Protocols at an opportune moment, gain Skyfire. An allied one over a GK Storm Raven? Storm Talons would probably be better. Brom MKIV
That is the premise i.e. that you could simply take a raptor not ally. I hadn't noticed the interaction of deep strike though, that would complicate things since people might feel t1 flyers are a little too good. Ushtarador
The fire raptor is a lot of fun, and an awesome model too ;) In competitive play, I find the stormraven to be more versatile. The fire raptor really only shines against infantry, and it does not have transport capacity. That being said, forcing pinning tests on 3-4 units per turn is pretty neat (if you play against something that can be pinned) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298141-relic-fire-raptor/#findComment-3839416 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
Skyfire isn't shared to a unit. ;_; That's not how Protocols works though. On the turn you select to active it, you select a number of units equal to the Turn number, then they have the chosen special rule till end of turn. So, you'd select your unit of Purifiers with attached Red Hunters Librarian (as you can't just select the Libby, as he's now part of the unit). They'd then all receive the buff. Gentlemanloser
Sounds like the "Joins unit for *all* rules purposes" mess again. ;) When is a Red Hunter unit not a Red Hunter unit? lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/298141-relic-fire-raptor/#findComment-3840040 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
How long is a piece of string? ;) 7th edition FAQ is long overdue on this and a bunch of other issues (the psychic phase in particular is a mess that only house-ruling sorta fixes). I'd even prefer a main rulebook FAQ over a codex one at this point.
