Making a new Chapter/ Warband

So I have been working in my Knight's of the Emperor.

But it feels like im just doing more Templars, and I want to try something different.

I have been seeing chapters and so far Storm Wardens looked very cool.

But deep down im looking for something more... chaotic.

Now with the release of the new chaos book by Forgeworld, which is cool, I might go to the heretic side.

If going chaos i am more interested in a classy chaos thing without all the spikes and possessed troops.

And do I really need to roll on the chaos boon table after killing a character? Is there no way to avoid that?

I already have some ideas for chaos or imperial fluff.

Or I could make a chapter that especializes in terror kinda like Night Lords but loyalists. An opinion or some brainstorming might help.

You should do a Chaotic version of the Knights of Blood (some of the earlier fluff has them as a Khornate warband with a soft spot for the Blood Angels, later fluff identifies them as loyal Renegades, on the outs with the Imperium but still loyally serving the God-Emperor), then fly out to California and have a fight with me.

Yes they do have similarities with NL. But cmon I can't really find anything original now days.

I was thinking of calling them Blood Lords (vampire thing) or Soul Hunters / Reavers if they are Loyalist.

I will try to learn some warp sorcery so I can open a portal to California ;)

Im trying to make my own Marine blend.

While using Chaos rules I will be using Loyal Marines Gear and models.

Too many horns and Spikes for my taste.

Now I just need to choose a color scheme.

Being Khornate the red is a must.

Silver for details, Maybe gold for the trims?

If you don't like the chaos rules, you can use any of the loyalist 'dexes to represent a recently turned or simply renegade chapter.

Yes, you do have to roll on the table, but it's not all that bad: there are some decent results there. And don't forget, there is a chance (very very slim) that your 11pt cultist sergeant can become a daemon prince if you roll well :)

If you want to do the chaos with some weird rules but without the having to challenge you might want to look at the Space wolf, Blood Angel, or dark angel dexes. These have some slightly esoteric rules that can give a bit of flavour to your army.

However, if you do do any of the above, make sure that any opponents you face know what your models represent rules wise. It's only good manners :)

I using fantasy Vampire Counts as Inspiration.

I could always use chaos spawns rules as some beasts and stuff. Also lots of cultists. There is something about commanding mindless hordes that fascinates me...

And I will need to buy a daemon prince model!

Like I previously said I have a borrowed Chaos codex, the person that bought it is really not interested so I might buy it for me.

Hmmm... now I need to have a look at Vampire Counts beasts and chaos units rules to see what I can do with it...

And ofc in a game I will inform my oponent of the rules im using.

I usually play with the same group so should not be a problem. :)

Ah, but that is the beauty of the Alpha Legion, brother. You can represent them however you want, they put on any number of facades to ensure mission completion. Mechanised Hydra strike force? possible. Drop pod assault force? also possible? Siege breakers? indeed, it is also possible. While the Hydra usually employs fanatical humans to do it's bidding, they will employ whatever means necessary to further their goals.

That's not to say i'm trying to pigeonhole you into the XX legion, but merely giving you a different look at it if the legion catches enough of your interest. In fact, your warband/chapter may be composed of undercover Alpha Legionaires without any outsider knowing. Imperial record keeping is poor at best, so the chapter may have been "lost in the warp" and recently reemerged; as for the warband, virus bombs, skull collecting, faked euphoria, or the pursuit of knowledge (which is already an Alpha Legion aspect) can give the undercover legion enough cover to trick people into believe that warband " x " follows " y " god.

But anyways, it's ultimately your choice on which direction the fluff takes and this is all just my two cents.

After some thinkering , I might go as Storm Dragons or crimson Knights.

The only thing setting me back from dragons is the lack of a proper shoulder pad that I can use.

I dknt want to use Salamanders one because, they will be called salamanders so I ask if someone have some tips or ideas that might help. Thanks.

You could use the Sally's badge in a different colour. The Excoriators's and Crimson Fist both have different coloured versions of the Imperial Fist Badge. And one of the Raven Guard successor's (Shadow Guard I think? Something like that) Have a white RG badge. Ofcourse, if they're not Sally successors that could be a bit akward for them to explain to the greater Imperium...
